Hi

I'm a keen musician with 2 kids at Wharncliffe Side Primary in North West Sheffield. My oldest plays the violin and I've got plans for my youngest to play the cello. I'd like to establish a beginners' orchestra in the area. The music service provides things in the South and North East of the city but there's absolutely nothing in this area (at least not that I've found). The school's very keen to help out (I'm a governor there) but we're not big enough to get something going on our own. My idea is a beginner's orchestra along the classical orchestra lines (violins, cellos, flutes, trumpets, percussion etc) with enough people to pay someone to direct it, supported by parent volunteers. If we did something for an hour a week it'd cost us £32 pounds to hire someone. If we had 16 children in it, this would be £2 per child per session, 32 children £1 per child per session etc. We've got about 8 or 10 so far so we only need a few more to make it viable. We've got a venue and plenty of enthusiasm at Wharncliffe Side, as well as a good idea of who we'd like to get to direct it, but we need some more members. Is anyone out there interested? You'd need to have your own instrument and be able to get it out, set it up and get a noise out of it, but that's about it. We're thinking of something weekly for an hour or so after school.

If you'd like to chat about it more, please pm me.
