It seems to me that people ask about cooking lessons on the forum quite often. They don't necessarily want a qualification they just need a bit of instruction and guidance to build up their confidence so they know what they're doing. Would any of the food group regulars be interested in either taking or giving cooking lessons to people?

What I suggest is we either look at meeting at someones house (numbers would be limited) or look at possibly renting a kitchen in a pub for the day between us (potentially expensive but possibly better results). Based on that we could have a bit of a social event, a recipe swap and also some decent food and we all learn a little.

Obviously we'd split the cost of the food and if you are giving lessons at your house you wouldn't be expected to contribute to the cost of the food.

How many people would be seriously interested? Please respond to the poll and also let us know what sort of food you specialise in and based on that we can look at how we go about doing things.

Cheers

I'd be happy to teach Mediterranean cooking and also how to cook meat properly and also basic cooking techniques

I'd be hopeless at teaching anything. I can't bear anyone watching me or even being in the kitchen while I'm cooking. I like to do things my own idiosyncratic way, not necessarily by the book. I never follow a recipe and having someone watching me would result in a serious flounce, burnt food, broken plates and food on the walls.

Would you be interested in learning though?!

I would be interested in showing other people how to cook, I am what you would term a "home cook". It makes me sad to hear people say that they can not cook, even the most simlple meals can be achived and enjoyed.

I have had many years of enjoyment passing on tryed and tested recipes to my friends and family who have gained confidence and ask me time and time again for advice.

I'd be interested in learning! I can cook, but follow my own recipes and make things up as I go along, would like to learn something new!

I'd be interested in this. I wouldn't call myself an expert at any cuisine, but would happily share what I do know. Perhaps my speciality would be offal, as I am interested in this at the moment (not an expert, but learning lots)! I would also be interested in attending lessons - baking is definitely one area I could improve on!

One point to mention is that my kitchen is TINY and totally inappropriate for anything like this - if we could use a pub or something that would be great - although I reckon there may be a few insurance issues.
