right, i have two queries.....

1) my step dad has installed a new USB 'card' thingy with 4 front facing usb's. the computer already has 2 rear usb's... now they all work fine... but... when you plug something into the front facing usb's (e.g my pen drive) the connection to the wireless router dies... and i have to restart my computer. i have no clue why.... admitedly the wireless usb is on a 4 port hub with nothing else on.. but surely that shouldnt make any difference..

2) Also to do with USB's... after restarting my computer to get my conection to the router back and my pen drive is in.. the external hard drive i have changes name.... (eg when i turn my comp off its the G: drive... but when i turn it back on its the F: dirve.. .) even tho i havent moved it from any ports or anything all i have done is attched my USB Pen drive-which usually becomes the H: drive

is there anyway of makin the G: drive (external hard drive) stay as the G: drive and not change name??

cheers for looking at my post and anty help will be MUCHO appreciated cus its becoming annoying having to rescan my computer for it to find my 5000 odd songs on my external hard drive everytime i want to listn to music on windows media..

Cheers

(yes lol and a spell checking program for me would also be helpfull before anyone points out my APAULING spellings)

I'm not too sure about the USB plugging-one-thing-in-and-others-dying, but as far as your external drive goes, one workaround may be to change it's drive letter to something like "P". It shouldn't then constantly be flitting around letters at the start of the alphabet.

Oh, and it's "appalling"

I had this problem and traced it back to power supply.

Basically the PSU on my computer wasn't up to powering new gadgets....

Dunno if it's exactly the same for removeable drives, but if you right-click on My Computer and select Manage, then click on Disk Management on the LHS, you can right-click on a drive/volume on the RHS and go for Change Drive Letter and Paths. I always move my cd/dvd drives to M onwards (don't ask, I guess because M sounds almost like ROM ) to save it changing and confusing matters...
