Does anyone know the regulations regarding parking on yellow lines?

A friend of mine recently got a ticket for parking on one but on the road there isnt a sign which tells you what the hours are for parking. I thought that there needed to be a sign which tells you what the times restrictions are?

He recieved this ticket --->

"01
Parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours"

But like I said, there wasnt any signs telling him what the hours are.

Any ideas?

cheers

I thought that too. Get down there quick and take a nice photo showing there are no signs Then investigate whether you can actually do anything about it, in case they sneakily put a sign up in the meantime

Apparently the yellow lines have to be clear and un broken and have the cap line on the end.

Also there has to be clear signs stating the restrictions. A quick call to either the RAC or AA should give you the relevant info.

Was a piece on telly (Trevor McDonald) the other night about just such a thing. Yes there has to be a plate within so many metres outlining the restrictions ie the hours that you can't park. If there isn't then the lines are not legal and the ticket can be contested. Apparently the local councils throughout the country are ignoring the legal requirements in many places and are relying on the ignorance of motorists just to pay the fine.
Good advice re:the camera get it photographed if there aren't any signs, best of luck
