i parked my vw touran on shirehall road s5 at 11.30am today cause it was struggling in the snow. when i went back to pick it up at 5.40 pm i found it had been crashed into and the front drivers side badly damaged. i asked a few people who live nearby if they had seen or heard anything but all i could find out was that it wasn't damaged at around 4pm when a few local residents arrived home from work.
i have young twins and my car is my lifeline. i now have to pay my insurance excess and have lost my no claims bonus, all thanks to some idiot who probably has no insurance and obviously cant drive.
so if anyone on here can help me find anything out i would be really gratefull.

Perhaps that person struggled/skidded in the same snow that made you abandon your car? Why is it obvious that they can't drive? Sorry, but in this rubbish weather that's a big presumption that your car was hit by an uninsured rubbish driver.

Then why didn't they ring the police to try and ascertain whose car they had hit?

i'm all for defending those exposed by peoples rants on here, but attempting to criticise the OP for complaining about someone hitting their motor and driving off without leaving any details is disgraceful.

Surely you can understand why the op is a little peeved when some selfish individual ruins someone elses property and absconds without leaving their details. I think the OP has every right to be presumptuous.

Eh?? Not criticising, just commenting that the person who hit the car may have struggled too

so what if they struggled? if they genuinely struggled and cared they would have stopped and attempted to leave their details.

plus, if they can't handle their whip in bad weather, they should have thought about that before taking it out and shunting other peoples vehicles.

It may be down to sheer selfishness. The driver who hit the Sharan will lose their no claims bonus and have to pay an excess. Cheaper to do a runner and hope no one got their reg number. Some people are honest and do the right thing and others dont.
I knocked the mirror off a Volvo once and the owner was not at home. I went to a breakers and got a replacement. Went round after work to see if they had come home and they was in. Knocked on the door and owned to the damage, before I could explain I have a replacement I took a barrage of abuse. Still wasn't happy about me being prepared to fit it, they wanted a garage to do it for would take 5 minutes. I had enough of their attitude, gave them the mirror and apoligised for knocking on the door and owning up and that if I had known that was going to be reaction I wouldn,t have bothered. Walked off and left them to it.

for your information sazz i have been driving for 12yrs and never had an accident. yes i do drive a mummy wagon but thats because i have 5 kids. i have drove many cars over the years and driving is a big part of my job as i work with the disabled and transport then about on a daily basis.
i am not ****** at the accident, i understand this weather is hazadous (thats why i parked my car up). its the fact the idiot who hit didn't have any thought for me or my family. they just drove away and pretended it never happened.
if you thing this is apppropriate action from anyone who is supposed to be a responsible driver then you are deluded.

I bus driver once hit a car whilst I was on it. I saw and felt what he did. I was getting off at the next stop so I took pics and reported it to the police and bus company.
Hope someone does the same for you.

Ok, yes as a professional driver (35 years) I am deluded for simply passing a comment - what if the person who hit you had a car with 5 kids in too? If you had done the same in the snow with your 5 children strapped in the back I am utterly convinced you would have stopped and given your details, of course you would. Bless you, I hope if I ever get hit by a car it is driven by you

actually yes i would have stopped and left my details.i have my insurance details with all the time because you can never be sure whats around the corner, no matter how experienced a driver you are. i'm not certain but i thought it was illegal to be involved in a accident and leave without offering your details or notifying the police. isn't this is why most drivers pay insurance? well this and the fact that your more likely to be hit by someone who does a runner or has no insurance or both.

Well you sound like a right piece of work to me, its just a shame that driving licenses can't be revoked for bad attitude. I hope someone with your attitude damages your possessions and gets away with it.
