Has anybody seen the male Pheasant on the Park Square roundabout.
It emerged from bushes yesterday as I was driving round it.
It was an unusuall site, one I thought was not a place you would think of seeing it.
Perhaps it has strayed from the Moors but it won't last long on there.
It walked on the grass in full view which again is unusuall as they are a shy bird.

Most of the Pheasants (are you sure you didn't mean peasant) are bred in captivity and from being chicks they are fed by gamekeepers so have no real fear of either human beings or traffic.

I fear that one will meet it's demise at the hands of a car on the roundabout.

Having lived in the Scottish countryside for 3 years I can say that Pheasants are most certainly not shy but incredibly thick.

They have absolutely no sense of danger and I have lost count of the number of times when driving I have had to swerve to avoid them.

It won't last long!

We had a race with one coming home from town last Saturday

A lot of cock pheasants seem to be to fat or too lazy to fly.

Blimey, I narrowly missed this feathered fella on Saturday lunchtime - I thought it'd be squished by now!

They really are the most stupid of creatures. Absolutely no road sense.

Since when did fox hunters carry guns? It's because of moronic people with no idea of the sport or the countryside in general that Fox hunting was banned.

Wait until foxes start spilling you wheelie bin for the left over Sunday Chiken, you'll not be calling the hunters then, will you?

Fox hunters are sick assholes! They're murderers! A life is a life, animal or not! How would you like some stupidly dressed people hunting you down? It should've been banned years ago!
You like sports? Take up rugby!

Totally agree.
for the past two nights on my way home from work, I have spotted a fox with cubs crossing the mosborough parkway.

Could have quite easily killed them both times as I was doing 50 mph, but no.

Why should I want to kill them ?

Ok, they are natural scavengers and sometimes make a mess of your bins, but that doesnt give ANYONE the "right" to hunt them down.

And as for the picture in the sunday paper of one of the royal family on a hunt....they should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

I know this isn't a fox hunting thread, but ignorance of the sport lead to it's ban, It is part of the British Heritage and a tradition not a sport, be proud of your past there's not much left of it.

There was a movie / short film made of the fox hunting lobby, it showed how stupid the ban was and why it was raised !! I can tell you now, it wasn't for the reasons you have stated, if it was I'm sure it would have been recieved better. I can't remeber the name of the film but suggest you find out what it was called and watch it, might make you more aware of how delicate lives little pleasures are !!!

PS I do play rugby !!

Tradition?!! That just means it's something done a lot...doesn't make it right! Where's the fun? Come on, tell me...what do you get out of hunting down a defenseless animal and watching it get ripped apart by dogs? In my opinion, anyone who can feel satisfaction with that has a twisted mind! I hope reincarnation is real so you can come back as a fox to take part in this wonderful "tradition".
I'm not a huge fan of foxes. They kill cats when they wander round the estate at night and i'm a big cat lover! But that doesn't mean i agree with their slaughter. You guys just have sour grapes now because it's been banned. Well boo hoo!

P.S It was you who called it a sport!

So your posts aren't traditional yet then Anton06 ?

What people choose to do for their recreation is their right and until fox hunting was banned it was quite ordinary for many people to go out and hunt down the fox RIGHTFULLY.

PS not all foxes are as cute as Basil Brush.. !!

I never said foxes were cute. As i said, i'm not a huge fox fan. But you have NO RIGHT to take lives!! I'm not even gonna argue with you anymore because you're so blinded by your own arrogance. You think you have the right to take lives...that makes you self rightious and, well, insane! You get some kind of wierd pleasure being in control of this animals life, probably compensating for the lack of control you feel with your own! It makes you feel stronger than you actually are. Anyone can murder a defenseless animal! In years to come, people will look back on fox hunting and consider it a barbaric piece of the past. But until people like you crawl off and shrivel up, it'll never happen. People DO have the right to do as they please with their recreational activities, but would you have the same opinion if someone liked spending their free hours killing children or people in general? Do people have the right to spend their own time mugging other people? No, i don't think so. Thank god for those of us who have a more enlightened perspective on life!

Why have you assumed I have actually been fox hunting?
I have never killed anything "other than the odd bit of road kill".
I regularly go clay shooting on Sundays and have been invited out on Duck/pheasant shoots but have declined (Mainly due to the cost) as I don't really want to shoot anything living.
Why have you assumed I am insane and not in control of my own life / destiny?
However if foxes are as assumptive and ill tempered as you I may be inclined to change my regular weekend sport for the one you have little knowledge of. (your not a fox are you?)

Hhmm..where do you live, i'd love to "discuss" this more with you.

You are right with one thing though, when it comes to animal cruelty, my temper is not only ill..it's at deaths door!
