Luke Varney told the press yesterday of how thankful he is to Sheffield Wednesday for re-installing his passion in the game and giving him conidence in what could only be described as his lowest moment personally in the game.

Varney who came from non-league roots has played for leicester, crewe and Derby however found himself frozen out at the latter and feared for his future as he found himself destined to be a bench warmer with no clubs coming in for him.

However Sheffield Wednesday then took him to Hillsboro on loan and he said "I can't thank Sheffield enough, I found myself at an all time low on the bench without any options and to be honest that got me down a little, however when I got the call to go up there it gave me my confidence back and I loved every minute up there despite the hard times they were going through. The fans were superb and having them behind me shouting gooo-on every time I got on the ball gave me a boost. They single handedly gave me confidence again and re-installed my faith in the game and it's due to this that i'm in the premiership now with blackpool".

Also spoke of the Mandaric takeover:- "I'm glad they've got it all tied up now, like I said when I was at Sheffield they had no real certainty as to where thins were going and it's a shame they went down, However it looks like thing are on the up for them and I wish them all the luck, they deserve it".

I know what you're saying and he scored afew goals, but he also missed loads of sitters. Prime example when we played Scunny at Hillsborough and we battered em 4-0 or 4-1, can't remember exactly but do remember he had at least two clear one on ones and fluffed em both... then went on to score a beauty lol!

He ran around alot and gave alot but there were times when he should have been putting em away and wasn't.

Still, good luck to the man. Hope his career goes from strength to strength.

Varney did miss some chances, but let's be fair... I would rather have him in the line up last season, than see Jeffers and Clarke play.

Varney is a hard worker, good pro to have in any Championship squad but he did annoy me at times.

He would run 40 yards beat 2-3 defenders then curl it round the keeper, then ten minutes later he would miss a sitter from 3 yards. He will always give 110% for any team! and for that reason, he has my respect.

Ditto.

I didn't see him that much, but you can see when a player can play or not, and Varney can.
He'll never be a world beater, but if he remains in the Prem either with, or without Blackpool, I wouldn't be surprised.

Good luck to the lad, he deserves it after maltreatment at Derby, and his fantastic attitude at Hillsborough.

Spot on in my view.
One's 100%, the other's 60%.
No contest.

Varney was a great player for us and would run through brick walls for the team its a shame we couldnt afford to buy him after his loan. Good luck to the lad i wish him all the best and would love to see him back at Hillsbrough one day
