I recommend you don't follow the above link unless you want spyware on your system.

I used THIS on my old system and it blocked all pop ups.

Free to download too.

Messenger can be turned of in the following way

Go into the control panel

Go into Administrative Tools

Go into Services

look for Messenger in the list, and right click and stop

Just to clarify, this is not MSN Messenger, but Windows Messanger Service used for transmitting messages from a network server to client PC's. Spammers use this service to spread their rubbish. Disabling it will have no adverse effect on your PC.

Have you downloaded any smileys or cursors, or anything else recently? The reason I ask is because Hotbar is mentioned in the url!

If you put hotbar uninstall into google search you'll see a site called spyany.com

It will link you to the hotbar uninstaller which I have used successfully in the past.

I would have posted the direct url but as I havent made 5 posts here yet the site wouldnt let me.

Did some googling and it seems that you can uninstall this using the standard add/remove software function in the Control Panel.

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/Hotbar.html

Having said that, further investigation turned up this page from Symantec which includes a removal tool:

I'd hardly call AdAware & SpyBot "Useless Freebies".

I ran the trial install of the product linked to above.

Spybot resident stopped 3 registry changes, one of which was to start itself at Windows start - which I told it not to do during install, the other two were BHOs.

Scanned the HD with it, and found nothing. Which came as no surprise as I have both AdAware & SpyBot running. Hardly makes me want to part with nearly £20.00
