Just wanted you to know we understand it was a complete accident and to thank you for taking him to the vets. Believe me, a lot of people wouldn't have done and would probably just have left him to die by the roadside. The vet said how upset you were, so you did your best, even though he died half an hour later from internal injuries. Thank you also for putting a note through our neighbour's door.
This may not seem a big deal to some people reading this, but my two little daughters have been inconsolable ever since. He was one of identical twins they'd had from kittens. He was also a great comfort to their 86-year-old grandmother who lives with us.
One thing that still bothers us is that the vet said he was found on Long Line. I'd be surprised if he roamed that far and I wonder if you could have been mistaken about the road name? Either way, it'd help us get over it if we knew exactly what happened. So I'd be grateful if you could somehow let us know - anonymously if you like, but there's no ill feeling, rest assured.

I'm so sorry to hear of your family's loss, but how kind of the lady to do what she could after what sounds to have been a complete accident.
Goddess Bless you all xxx

And we supposedly live on a 'quiet road' in a semi-rural spot. Hate to think what the casualty rate is like on those dual carriageways

Well done to whichever lady that was. There's no legal requirement to even report that you ran over a cat - unlike dogs - so it's nice to see that someone would take the trouble to do something about it.

Surely it's just the decent and only thing to do? Legal rammifications aside, it's someone's pet and as such a part of the family ... I can't understand how anyone can do anything else.

You'd be surprised how callous some people can be. I once saw a duck and its mate crossing the road from the pond near Rivelin Valley Post Office. A white van came screaming off the A57 snake onto Rivelin Valley Road, probably doing 60 in a 40 zone. It was broad daylight and the driver had time to avoid them. He just carried on, killing one instantly and leaving its mate flapping injured by the side of the road. He didn't even slow down to see what he'd done.

A few years ago i was in a situation where a cat ran in front of my car the option i had was to swerve and avoid hitting the cat but hit an on coming car unfortunatly the cat lost it was'nt worth the risk, i had my children in the car with me . I did stop only to be confronted by an irrate owner, i ponted out to her my kids were more important than her cat she did'nt agree a tad selfish i think.

I saw this too once. Used to work at Freemans years ago and on the way out of the carpark, the girl in front was heading towards 2 of the ducks. We felt sure she'd stop but she didn't, ran one of em over then drove up. Really upset us.

Probably thought ducks should pay road tax
Stopped for a rabbit on a driving lesson on rural roads towards the end of my lessons when i'd already put in for my test. Instructor bollocked me talling me if I did that on a test I'd fail. I simply replied "then I'll fail"
Thankfully some people are decent about these things, ne of my cats was run over and killed whilst I was out for the night, the driver took the time to knock on my door, and when no-one was in, eventually informed my next-door-but-one neighbours who took my cat's body and kept an eye out for my return to let me know and let me bury her
A sad night but would have been much worse to have had subsequent nights of worry if she had just been left there and then been moved by the council, or for me to have found if she'd been left to be run over again and again.
I don't blame the driver, unfortunately even with traffic calming, sometimes a little black cat will dart out or sit somewhere in shadow...but stopping, checking and letting someone know is the only decent thing to do

I was a chef at Freemans and remember the ducks well. They were part of the staff. Everyone liked those little critters.
So nice to hear about the lady taking the cat to the vets its not very often you hear such a nice thing. Shame about the cat but she did the best she could.

Non spayed tom cats can roam up to 5 miles!
We got ours done, and he likes to watch the dog play in the park behind the house.
Sorry for your loss

430spider, that was a really nice message to the lady who is probably feeling really bad about your cat. I am sorry to hear about how that happened, and hope that your daughters and your Grandmother are going to be alright.
