My first job was part time in the chip shop at Dore, can't remember it's name. It was in 1980. I was also a full-time student.

I suppose you could say my first job was stealing flowers from the graves and selling them out front,a good bunch we may sell three times ,I have to say i turned honest at 11 and i'm sure I paid them back many times over

Saturday job at Simpson Bros Heating Engineers around 1979. I used to sweep the yard and clean out and wash a couple of vans. Think I got £2.50, a mug of sweet tea and a kitkat. (Was it two fingers or four? My memory's a little hazy...)

Court House, 1968, magistrates clerk's assistant. Didn't stay long, but I learned a lot about maintenance payments, fines arrears, attachment of earnings orders, warrants etc. And I got to explore the "sub-basement tunnels" below the cells and under Snig Hill. Dark, damp and scary...

C & A Modes, 59/65 High Street, Sheffield. in 1957. I started work a week after I left school and had got the job from writing a letter to them in an English lesson..Lasted 3 and a half years until I go the sack for being late. ( 5 minutes in one week according to the clocking in clock)

Apprentice hairdresser, William Carr on Mansfield Rd. First pay packet, £1 15 shillings per week!!! Didn't stick it long! Went into the Civil Service pay there (at that time) £8 4 shillings per week, a Kings ransome!!!!
