Might be a silly question but do Dell Monitors work with any desktop pc or do you have to use them only with a Dell pc?

Short answer: They are not limited to Dell PCs.

Long answer: There are 3 types of monitor connections in common use and you need to make sure you have a lead that can go from the PC to the monitor. The three common connector types are VGA, DVI and HDMI.

Those links contain pictures of the connections to help you identify which your PC and monitor have. You can get converters between some of the connector types.
