Has anyone else had problems with BT broadband last 2 weeks?
All of a sudden when I was watching my online football match last week, the internet stopped, when I re-loaded the webpage it took 5 minuted to load up. Thinking I did something to my laptop i did a system re-store which had no effect. I noticed the broadband lights were going from orange to red, the to blue all the time. I left it went to bed and woke up thinking it will be working now.
It took me 10 minutes to access my e-mails, I could not access work e-mails or download important work docs. I rang BT and they said they will do checks, they did and the line was fine. I told them the line is fine its the broadband. So they put me through to broadband help. I told them the net is slow, unresponsive ect ect and they did checks again. After the checks they told me something on the front of the phone point was faulty, so told me to open it up and plug the broadband into the test point and said it should work. It didnt. I rang them up the next day and they said they had put the maximum ammount of megabytes on the line as they could, I told them I noticed very little and still had same problems.
So they said to wait 10 days as the usage will go up and down and after this time it will be sorted. Waited 10 days still no different, rang for the MAC code as had enough and they wont give it me, keep sayiong they can do deals ect ect. They told me if i left I have to pay the remaining 13 months of the contract, I told them I dont think so as you are failing to provide me with a service which I am paying for, so its you breaking the contract not me.
They got really funny with me and now I am fed up and whenever I go to move to another provider I cant as dont have a MAC code and been told I need it. I thought a MAC code was so not to have a break in services anyway? I dont mind a break in the service as long as I dont ever have to deal with BT ever again.

Assuming you are on a BT Home Hub, Have you tried re-starting it.
Type 192.168.1.254 into your browsers address bar (without http:\\www.)
go to Advanced, system, restart.
If that does not work, try the same, but reset; this will, or at least should, restore to factory settings.
Do you have the same problems wired as well as wireless?
Do you have BT Vision? If so try their helpdesk, I've been very impressed with them in the past.
yes BT home Hub, no I dont have Vision i got sky. Will try what you said and see what happens. I have tried re-starting it loads of times, it works fine for about 2 minutes then goes back to being slow again. Just took me 7 mins to load up sheff forum (
I did all that and its been working fine till just now when it all slowed down again. Thanx for trying to help, at least i got my MAC code now off it! haha!
not tried wired but my brother who has a laptop has the exact same problems as me as well when he uses it here.
It says to change to WEP instead of using WPA if having trouble but not too sure what this means, i have a rough idea but dnt wanna go messing with it lol.
Hi, WEP/WPA are two of the types of security encryption for wireless
Have a go at disabling your laptops WiFi adaptor and connecting via a cat5 cable, assuming your laptop has a network port. (most modern ones do)
If this cures the problem then it's likely a WiFi issue. Since your brother's laptop has the same problems, it would point to it being the Home Hub.
I had the same issue a while ago and BT sent me out a new hub pretty quickly once we had established where the problem was.
Are you on a black or a white hub? I gather that the black ones are probably more reliable.
Hi I have had similar problems but I'am on Orange, I've been backwards and forward with there technicians, and today we have hopefully sorted it. It seems my anti-virus which is the AVG 2011 free edition was the problem.I took it off and moved to Avast free edition all seems OK now. Avg updated its self a month or so ago to 2011 edition, and since then the problems started.
