Carl Do you train with us too?
And yes you are right
www.sheffieldkickboxing.com
Is the site
AFK is the name
And they have specialised personal trainers. I hear tjey have been doign private lessons and personal training for some time.
Because of the shifts i work it would be impossible to train regulary if it were not for the private lessons. I possibly would have trained elsewhere too!

Freddy
how much does it cost per class at your club? (i couldn't find anything on the website) is it the same price for a regular class as it is for a beginners class?
cheers

Hi Anvil , most of the people pay a regular fee of £4 per class.
But some of us are on a "special deal" if you get what i mean coz we train regularly every month.

I've found that some clubs (the ones i prefer) allow people to work at their own speed within a class anyway. Not all do though, so maybe you should pay the club a visit first and see what a class is like and if it would suit you.

Mind you anvil
many people do actually prefer a private lesson for one on one attention so everything is put right on the spot.
Also not everyone is a fan of the group class system if you gget what i mean

yeah, i think i can understand that, especially the added attention that you get. If that's what people want then that's fine, it's all about personal choice i guess. I have/have had private lessons myself and i've learned a lot from them, but it's been nice for me to put what i've learned into practice in a group setting.

I agree Anvil
I prefer the group setting because im a social type, i like to spar with the lads and have a laugh with everyone.
Its nice to test yourself against everyone in sparrin people of different sizes, heights, people form different styles etc.
Where i train we have guys who have done Taekwondo, the odd MMA fighter, the odd thaiboxer , the odd ex boxer, theres such a mix.
In a private lesson though, especially when you have a perfectionist instructor like Farhad, you can tidy up the "finer points" on how to get extra power into a right cross or little things like where your guard slips slightly say on the left hook, or how you leave your floating rib exposed foir a kick when you punch.
So id say both learning methods are good.

A lot of the work in the group classes at the Wellington street gym is circuit training on punchbags etc. where you get to work at your own speed anyway.. and you'd find it a lot more social and cheaper than personal training Why don't you come down and say hello sometime?
There are usually a few beginners and women around on sunday, 12-2.
The wicker camp does one on one sessions too if that's really what you want to do. I'd recommend something along the lines of kickboxing rather than 'martial arts' personal training to be honest (very generic term, could mean anything but most likely doesn't mean anything very good), but that's just my preference.
Hope you find somewhere to suit you - and don't be afraid about coming into a group setting, can't speak for everywhere but the places I train all have very friendly people and a good mix of levels.

Best thing to do is try all options, classes/personal training and see which one best meets your needs.

you'd be wise to check out wicker camp muai thai boxing for one on one training - far more effective as self defence than kick boxing - plus it is a very good gym, they really know their stuff

thats ignorant
there are traienrs at AFK like big andy and saj,.. i cant see them losing to a thaiboxer in the street

Freddy
I think your making things a bit personal now.
Wicker Camp has without a doubt a far superior reputation that AFK ever will, it has a bigger student base, has been established for far longer and produces much better fighters, and if you try to deny that you know you'll be embarrassing yourself.
Do you know Pingpang, I doubt it, just like I don't know you, but I'm not going to start questioning your knowledge or skill am I - everyobe has a different opinion and is entitled to it, that's life.
