I accidently brushed against some white gloss paint the other day,and got some of the paint on my new fleece. I got the paint off with turps. But couldnt get rid of the smell of turps.
Ive soaked the fleece in cold water with Bicarbonate of Soda in, and rinsed it numerous times and hung it on the line outside, BUT it still smells of turps.
I would have liked to put it in the automatic washer on its own in a pre-wash , then a full wash, but Ive done this before with other clothes, and the washer smells of turps for ages afterwards.
Has anyone got any ideas , how to get rid of the smell ? Maybe some professional Decorators out there would know.
I will be back late today to see if I have any reples.

*gross* it will smell of the turps, as it's an oil, and doesn't dissolve into the water .

The only way to remove the turps is to use another solvent to dilute it. Have you tried having it dry cleaned?

No, but I will give it a try, medusa. If it was an old fleece I would throw it away, but its a new one.

I wouldnt bother, fleeces are dirt cheap anyway, unless it is a Berghaus or North Face.

Cat litter can eradicate a lot of smells, but with it being oil based it may be a problem.

I'm still hungover from last night, I read the title as "How do I get rid of the smell of turnips"

Rub in some washing up liquid, leave for 15-20 mins then wash it away.

Used cat litter will work even better. Just put a bit in each pocket and you'll not get anymore whiff from the turps.

This works !!! Just done what you advised, then washed it by hand, then in the washer, and the smell has completely gone. Also no smell of turps was left in the washer. Thanks so much rudeboy !
