Can this be true? £250,000 A WEEK.
Wow that's just <removed> maddness.
Football fans are paying through the nose for season tickets, I now understand why. My god, £250,000 A WEEK.
Don't blame Rooney, in fact good luck to him.
No wonder Collean puts up with him, even I WOULD.

Not a bad wage if you can get it. Fair play to him.

The figure i've seen quoted is a mere £150k a week.

Supply and demand - Man U must feel it's worthwhile in terms of fans through the gate, Sky money and sponsorship.

Absolutely sickening.
In contrast I though Billy Sharp showed great class tonight after he scored against The Blades by NOT celebrating the goal he scored against his former club.
Class is not a word ever likey to be used to describe the actions of the fat Scouser!

I'm happy for him. That'll keep him in tractor tyres that he can tie to trees and swing in for a while.

It's better that he's paying hundreds of thousands a month in tax compared to the benefits he'd be claiming if he couldn't kick a ball straight.

I think it's obscene to pay anyone that sort of money, just for kicking a bit of leather about a muddy field.

If Rooney was just getting paid for kicking a bit of leather about a muddy field we'd all be on that wage.
It's just as obscene as movie stars, rock and pop stars and other sports stars get.

Surely, someone's wages are in line with the amount of revenue they bring in to an organisation or the value of the service that they provide?
I admit that his wages are obscene in these times of austerity but my inner capitalist says "Sod it, fair play to the boy".

I'm surprised that those on here questioning the amount of money he's on, haven't been castigated as preaching the politics of envy....

Precisely.
Fans don't like it?, then don't go, and he won't be worth it.
People don't like Sky?, don't subscribe, and then he won't be worth it.

I'm surprised at your comment PT . Someone is worth what people are willing to pay. Man U are in huge debt as you know. If someone is willing to put the money up to fund this, then it's their risk against 'worth'.

Another good point. What is it 80 mill over 5 years? What do top film stars get?
Don't like it? Don't go see the film.
I've had this argument at work, and I was 10 against one to me. It just showed 10 wrong people and one right one... me!

I am surprised that Fergie fell this blatant blackmail scam.
Rooney's present form warrants drop in pay.
