I am in woodhouse.Last night about 9 o clock I looked out of my window in a northerly direction. In the sky was a very bright object [ not a star, im sure] it looked like 3 or 4 lights hanging vertically with occaisional lights at each side. does anyone know what it could be? and it was white light not orange so I dont think it was the famous lanterns.

I didn't notice anything from Crookes and I've just had a quick look on Stellarium which doen't show any planets to the north at 21.00.

Well worth having a look at the program though, it's a free download.

That looks cool I might get that down, there's also Google Sky Map, a free app, which is brilliant for seeing what things are in the night sky.

"any chance it could be a satellite or maybe the space station?"

Honestly ? .. you've obviously never seen a satellite or the stn

I took a few long exposures (architecture) and there's nothing but clouds in the northern sky from my location,
It sounds more like a light display from a pub/club,its always hard to tell from reading a description on the net,

But my money would be on the dreaded lanterns as per

JJ..
