i have always gone to Butterworths, they've always been very helpful reasonably priced.. i've never had any problems with them, in fact they usually go out of the way to give me help/advice..

I agree about the service in EBC, I've often been left with no-one to talk to it depends who's on at the time - if it's some callow youth with a love of bicycles but a fear of people you might be in for a long wait.

That said I did once manage to talk to someone with an intimate knowledge of pumps and ended up a very happy punter.

I'll also mention Butterworths round the corner: could not be more knowledgeable or helpful but he only offers a limited range of products. And have you tried Recycle Bikes. Top notch for repairs, never seen anything like it.

just bought a new bike plus lights, mudguards, bar bag, pump, 2 bottle cages and a bike tool from EBC

Got great service from 3 different members of staff on 3 visits. They also price matched a rear bike carrier against the price at JEJ which brought it down from £110 to £75. In the end I changed my mind and asked them for a price for a different carrier which is similar to the one on my motorhome and looks more secure. The branch could not price match as it is a special order item (rack, fixing kit, extra rail and lock) I spoke to Michael in Edinburgh and explained I would rather buy it locally so he agreed to discount the order which brought it to within a few £'s of the best web price I could get

I am very pleased with the service received and would recommend them without reservation. Well done EBC

I think the right response would have been for the assistant to explain that the sale was finished but seeing as they'd still got the sale price on they would honour that price. That would have won them brownie points and good PR rather than the opposite.

They could have then whipped the rest away and peeled the sale stickers off. It would have made little or no difference to the store - but it made a big difference to the OP and I can understand that.

There's no legal requirement for them to sell it at the sale price of course - but for the sake of 1 customer - who might well have come back again and bought something else - it was short-sighted of them not to oblige.

Been in a few time but never really liked the shop. Mainly use Decathlon for most of my outdoor equipment and J E James for cycling products that Decathlon do not sell.
