As some of you know, i've recently started working in Sheffield. Any suggestions of where to go for a couple of pints on a Thursday night?

Somewhere reasonably lively but where i won't stick out like a sore thumb being on my own.

Thanks.

PK

PS. This isn't market research, i just fancy a couple of beers.

Go to the devonshire cat. has nearly every beer ever invented. It rocks!

Would that be on Devonshire St? Just off Fitzwilliam?

Yes it is. If you know the forum, on division street, then you turn off div street, down the side of the forum, past spar, and you should be able to see the devonshire cat on the corner. It is a good place to go for drinks, and you won't stand out like a sore thumb.

Thanks for the advice, i didn't get a chance to go into town but i'll certainly the cat a try in the next week. I stopped in for a swift half at a pub in Broomhill called the Broomhill something... posibly tavern? It was a nice place for a quiet pint with what seemed to be a mixture of students and locals. Friendly barstaff and background mostly rock music.

Went to Varsity on Eccleshall Rd. a bit later but was more obviously on my own as mostly big tables and little room to stand at the bar. More your trendy students place i feel, for people who want to get dressed up to go to the pub.

At least i'm gradually increasing my knowledge of Sheffield, thanks to this forum.

Yeah, it is the broomhill tavern, lovely pub. Had many a pint in there. Varsity is just your typical chain bar which there seems to be an abundance of these days. Unfortunately, there aren't really any great pubs on ecclesall road, However, try the lescar on sharrovale road off Ec road (The hunters bar roundabout end). The porter cottage is also a good pub just over the road from the lescar, but always extremely busy.

Cheers guys.

From next week there will be free live bands every night of the week. There, that covers any threads about to start which may ask what to do!

No decent pubs on Eccy Rd. Tsk!
