Hemp seed oil is has the highest concentration of Essential Fatty Acids of any natural oil.

It has a 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3, and is possibly the best balanced for dietary benefit.

EFAs are essential for the functioning of cells and the creation and maintenance of nerve tissue including the brain.

Child of our time showed a single instance of fish oils (again, I would select cold pressed hemp seed oil instead, fewer heavy metals and a better balance of oild) improving the concentration span and general behaviour of a young boy who was in top gear the whole time.

Two problems with hemp seed oil - it goes off quickly. Delicate oils oxidise rapidly even in a brown winchester bottle kept in the fridge, and it's expensive.

Reading Tony Buzan books will make your child smarter

Tony Buzan's "How to master your Memory Book"

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...227757-5455869

In fact all Tony Buzans books will make your child smarter, they are recommended reading at Universities, it is a shame that they are not recommended at comprehensive schools.

BTW you can loan his books from the library.

Don't confuse memory retention with intelligence. Don't confuse how schools classify intelligence with actual ability.

Exams are just jumping threough hoops and showing how to repeat up bits of info parrot fashion without understanding them. The books are good, I agree, at improving memory retention, but that is just a very small section of intelligence.

AFAIAA fish oils and the fatty acids held in them help the brain develop better synapse reactions so should help with not only memory, but mental co-ordination and reaction time.

As to whether it can make anyone 'smarter' it's such a loose classification, I'd not be sure.

well most people are lactose intolerant and cant digest milk, also with the process the milk goes through before it gets to us it loses things to make it easier to digest. I have milk but try not to have much and when i do i get a blocked up nose, i feel alot better when am milk free. The goverment will never tell the truth as they would upset the dairy farmers - thats what i think anyway

if you can go without milk for abit you will notice the difference

Most people? What percentage are we talking here? I know that people of far eastern genetic stock are more likely to be lactose intolerant but I don't know the statistics.

Who Has Lactose Intolerance?
As commonly expected, infants and small children have the enzyme lactase so they can digest mothers' milk. However, during childhood, lactase begins to disappear in many people. Some ethnic groups are more likely to develop lactose intolerance. By adolescence, it is gone in about 75% of African-Americans, Jews, Native Americans, Mexicans, and in 90% of Asians. So the condition is very common

Wow, I'd no idea it was so prevalent. I must be one of the lucky 1/4. I love milk and never have digestive problems. My sinus trouble is bad enough!

Actually we need 3-6-9 of the fatty acids for them to work properly. Which can be got from capsulles.

Sure the sinus problems are nothing to do with it?

Yeah, it isn't one the symptoms of lactose intolerance. Not unless I was snorting milk.

Hmm... It can't be worse than beer froth can it?

Did anybody watch this programme on BBC2 tonight.

It made it sound as if fish oils were the cure to almost everything.

Pregnant mums who take it have more intelligent children, kids who take it do better at school and become better tempered.

In adults, it cures some types of depression, keeps our joints working and wards off heart attacks and strokes.

The programme said it comes from oily fish, salmon etc, which I don't like.

I hear walnuts and pumpkin seeds are a very good source.

Does anyone have any experience with omega 3 and supplements etc?

Actually, milk consumption can lead to excess mucus production, it could possibly be related to the sinus problem.

I suspect that most of the 75% who are lactose intolerant exhibit this in fairly minor ways which they may either not notice or never attribute to milk consumption.

I read a hilarious book many years ago, "Milk, Sulphate and Alby Starvation" by Martin Millar about somebody who is perpetually ill and, through an elimination diet, discovers that it is milk which is making him unwell. He then discovers that most other people have problems with lactose, and tries to publicise this more. So the Milk Marketing Board hire a ninja assassin to kill him.

Anyway, back to omega-3, I read a while ago that our evolution has adapted us to a balance of roughly 50:50 omega-3 to omega-6. Nowadays because of the prevalence of cereals in our diet, and in the diet of many of the animals we eat, we get a ratio of more like 1:50, so increasing your omega-3 intake is well worth doing.

Hmm, eskimos also live in some pretty extreme conditions, are you sure it's the fish that's killing them off young?
