usually when im logging into other email accounts, or other sites with valuable information I see the lock in the address bar.

does the url start with http:// or https:// ? the s stands for secure... if not towards the bottom right of the page there is a link which says "use enhanced security (SSL) if you click that link it will redirect you to a securer log in page
