"Dore to lead Sheffield opposition"
See what I did there?
Anyway, Julie Dore, Councillor for Arbourthorne, has been elected Leader of the Labour Group on Sheffield Council. She beat some SF Members in the process.
I wonder if this is a poisoned chalice or a chance for some change in local politics?

cgksheff. She didn't beat any SF members. The only elected members who post on the Forum are Joe Taylor (Lib Dem) and John Robson (Labour). John didn't stand for the leadership. Those who did are :
Julie Dore; Bryan Lodge (who posted briefly on here 2 years ago about the gritters); Harry Harpham and Mike Rooney.
It was a close run between Julie and Bryan, but everyone I've spoken to in the Sheffield Labour Party is pleased with the result.

I don't get it!
If it was closely run between Julie and Bryan, and everyone you've spoken to is pleased with the result, this would seem to imply that you don't talk to 50% (less those that voted for Harry and Mike) of the party!

At least we can be very grateful that Bryan Lodge didn't win. he was one of the idiots in favour of giving away our parks.

The same parks that where mostly given away by the rich people of sheffield in the 1800/ early 1900, to the local authority?
Why does everyone say keep our parks, when half the people dont use them and they could be built on for things that sheffield needs??

There were given to the people of sheffield, not the local authority.
Following on from your dubious logic, that must mean that half of the population do use them, which makes them a fabulous thing to be treasured. But they belong to the next generation, and the one after that, who may value local green space rather more than we do in this one short, unusually mobile, generation.

So was Julie unfortunetly. She was in favour of giving away Graves Park to St Lukes and then even had the cheek to object when the new Lib Dem Council identified a differnent site not on a park in her own ward.

I think it is appropriate if we remind her, and everyone else, of that stupidity as often as possible then.

Correction forumer: Councillor Julie Dore did not object at all. In fact in the council debate she spoke in favour of the Norfolk Park estate site for St Luke's hospice, as did the other two Arbourthorne ward councillors, myself included. We only objected to the Lib Dem administration failing to consult with local residents - that was all.

(And just to reiterate Rosy Rat, although I am a member of SF - I wasn't a candidate in this Labour leadership election. I did though vote for Julie. )

So... When did the Liebore party of Sheffield consult with the residents of Norton about giving GP away?

For the record (although it is off topic!) the council received a request from St Luke's hospice to relocate on land at Graves Park. All councillors received written legal advice from the council's solicitor that as trustees we should avoid comment on the proposals whilst legal implications were being investigated. [If you'd read any of my posts on the relevant thread, you will see that I studiously avoided any comment myself, though I took up an invitation from the Friends of Graves Park - issued via SF - to visit the location].
As no proposals were ever finalised, there was no public consultation with the residents of Norton.
I'm happy to deal with any other queries you may have on this topic via PMs, as it is off-topic on this thread.
