My sister has been telling me about a therapist at Hillsborough Leisure centre who apparently does this and has had been successful in helping people lose weight without the surgery. Has anyone had this done? Any feed back good or bad?
Thanks

I have heard of it being done by therapists. It can work, depending on the client, but its also expensive. Check out the success rates and prices before you commit!

Waste of money.
Eat less, exercise more. It's the only way.

Yes, to a certain extent l agree with you, but . . . . . .. there are some people who need extra help and the hypno band can work. As i said though, its expensive.

Not always as straight forward as you imagine, I do both of those but due to cancer treatment and steroids I had it has made it much harder to move. I keep going with the healthy eating and gym but wondered if this was worth a try would be good to hear ifnit is a success

Hiya,
I know a therapist in the hillborough area who has a private practice and is qualified to do this. Her name is Helen Mcgovern. She has her own website but if you need her number let me know and I will PM you.

Hypnotherapy can definitely help in weight loss but I would not recommend that someone goes for a hypnotic surgical operation without first thinking VERY carefully about it. I would put hypnotic surgery on a par with actual surgery.
The brain is an amazing thing and even though the surgery may not actually physically be happening the brain can't really tell much of a difference between the imagination and reality which is where things can get complex. If you were to imagine that during your hypnotic surgery a swab was left in the wound you could have a physical reaction to something you imagine has happened! I kid you not!
Before committing to this kind of procedure I would look at "standard" hypnotherapy for weight loss first. There is a good chance that this could help you slowly and sensibly lose weight over time and get to where you would like to be without anything as extreme as surgery. If this approach doesn't help then you can always consider doing something more radical. It also tends to be a lot more cost effective to take this approach as well as some of these hypnotic gastric band sessions can cost hundreds of pounds a session!
I hope that helps....
Rich

" I would put hypnotic surgery on a par with actual surgery."
Witchcraft and hocus pocus IMHO.

Hi Anniec...I don't do the whole hypnotic gastric band thing. I know it has worked for some people but I think for the vast majority of people it isn't the most appropriate technique, at least not straight out of the gates. A lot of people get benefits from your more "everyday" hypnosis for weight loss. For many people there is just no need to spend all that extra money for a hypnotic gastric band when they can get the results in a different and more cost effective way.
Hi Angelfire1...everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, this would be a pretty boring forum if we all thought the same thing. In defense of my profession I would say that there is a significant evidence base building up which supports the use of hypnotherapy. This pdf lists some of the evidence: http://training-hypnotherapy.co.uk/d...pnotherapy.pdf
If you don't want to read it all here is a short summary of some of the contents...
The British Psychological Society: "hypnosis is a valid subject for scientific study and research and a proven therapeutic medium"
The NHS/NICE recommend hypnotherapy for the treatment of IBS.
Hypnotherapy meets the Chambless & Hollon criteria for empirically supported psychological therapies for a number of issues.
A 1992 meta analysis by Viswesvaran & Schmidt of 72000 people who stopped smoking found that multiple sessions of hypnotherapy was the most effective way of stopping and had an up to 85% chance of success.
Maybe I was a bit over the top in putting hypnotic surgery on a par with actual surgery. There is the potential for complications though if the person receiving hypnotic surgery believes that there has been a complication, the mind is a powerful tool!

Sorry anniec, I forgot to answer the other part of your question...
Prices for a hypnotic gastric band can vary massively. I know of someone in Spain who charges £3000 and I have seen hypnotherapists in this country charge around £400. Price is no indicator of the competence of the practitioner or the chances of the work being effective and successful though. If this is something that you do want to look into insist on speaking to people the hypnotherapist has previously treated so you can get first hand feedback from them.

Free Hypnotherapy for relaxation and confidence building. I am a hypnotherapist in training. I have been granted permission by my tutor and my professional body to work on issues for which I have already been trained. I am insured and a student member of The National Council for Hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is safe, relaxing and you will always remain in control. If you would like to find out more please contact me without obligation.
I will eventually be offering free sessions on other issues eg. weight loss, smoking, depression, anxiety. However at the moment I have not been trained in these areas. If you are wanting help on any of these issues please feel free to contact me and I can put you on my list for when the time comes. At the moment I am just looking for people who would like to be able to relax more or need extra confidence.
Please email hypnotherapy@toysie.co.uk if you would like any extra information.

I thought this thread could do with a comment from someone who has actually had the hypno band done. For me it worked I've lost 3 stone in 4 months. Fatty food & chocolate no longer appeal to me, also in the first session the hypnotist went through my eating habits £ helped me to be aware of my over eating triggers & how to avoid or deal with them. I don't know how it works but just that for me it has done. Please feel free to contact me if u want any more details oh & I paid £350 for it

Hi there,
Yes until I am a fully trained hypnotherapist all the work I do will be completely free including weight loss, smoking, depression, anxiety. I'm only trained to deal in confidence and relaxation at the moment though, but like I say send me an email and I'll put you on my list. It's a good opportunity for someone to try hypnotherapy without the large cost involved.

Hi, I have been mentioned above. I do the gastric band Hypnotherapy and also the weight loss Hypnotherapy, which I specialise in, with an exceptional success rate. I get referrals from my local GP surgery who have seen the results I achieve. I also work at at ladies fitness weight loss boot camp so I feel I have something different to bring to the sessions. With the gastric band Hypnotherapy you really do need to have thought about this carefully as mentioned above, and you also need a BMI of 25 or over. I would discuss with you whether you are suitable or not or whether it would be better just to have the normal weight loss Hypnotherapy when you ring. My website is www.alternative-therapist.co.uk and my number is 07762241183. I charge £350 for 4 sessions for the gastric band Hypnotherapy. I would be very wary of any gimmicks or discounts given fir this kind of Hypnotherapy. I work at my local doctors surgery near Hillsborough. Helen McGovern
