Nothing announced at the moment. Keep an eye on www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk for any info, don't forget fairly cheap advance fares are always available on both this site and www.megatrain.com.

East Midlands Trains is running a Red Dot Day in Sheffield on Wednesday 29th December.

This involves a special offer for one day only, exclusively for people travelling from Sheffield station, with extra staff on hand it is an ideal time to try train travel for the first time!

The special Red Dot Day ticket is £15 for adults and £5 for kids and allows a days unlimited travel anywhere on East Midlands Trains services in Standard Class accommodation.

East Midlands Trains operates direct services from Sheffield to London St Pancras, Liverpool Lime Street and Norwich.

They also operate local and rural link services from Nottingham to Worksop, Matlock, Leicester, Skegness, Lincoln, from Derby to Crewe, from Newark to Grimsby and Doncaster to Peterborough via Lincoln and Spalding.

The Mainline routes also include London St Pancras to Nottingham and London St Pancras to Corby.

To take advantage of the offer, download a voucher from www.reddotday.co.uk and take it down to the ticket office at Sheffield station where you can buy the ticket using the voucher. If you plan on using Supertram to get to the station you can also add on a tram dayrider at the discounted price of £2.50.

East Midlands Trains are suggesting people buy their ticket in advance so they can make a seat reservation on the train they wish to travel on in the morning.

There's an offer on with East Coast from Doncaster at the moment for travel to anywhere on their network (London-Donny-Newcastle-Edinburgh-Aberdeen) for £8. Today is the last day for booking though (13th Dec) and it is only for travel between Jan 5th and Feb 17th. You need to go to www.eastcoast.co.uk/8 and follow the links through from there to get promotional fares. Not as convenient as East Midlands Trains maybe, but Sheffield - Donny - London journey times are often pretty similar to the direct trains.
