I am interested in the following Nursing Homes:
Henleigh Hall
Holmwood
Broomcroft
Norton Lees Lodge / Hall
Scarsdale Grange
I have seen the reports from the care quality commission but would prefer peoples personal opinions and experiences.
Thanks in advance

A bit out of your area but Northlands (Walkley Commonside) is superb and I had WOM recommendation before my dad started his happy time there. Here's a small article about one of the many days out they arrange for residents http://nwsheffield.org/super-days-ou...ome-residents/
Good luck with the hunt. Not an easy time, especially if responsibility for the choice is laid on one person's shoulders!

The actual name of the home is Northfield.

I've always been impressed by the staff and the cleanliness at Scarsdale Grange - but haven't been in any of the others...

Thanks everyone. It's just the five home listed I'm interested in. I am looking on behalf of my friends father, her mother can not drive so they need one of the homes listed. Thanks again

My Mum was in Broomcroft for a while and I had no complaints. It was always very clean, the decor bright and the staff who cared for Mum were very caring. She had a very poor appetite, and if there was nothing on the menu that appealed to her, the carers would ask the chef to make pancakes - her favourite. Before Mum went to Broomcroft she had stayed at a couple of other homes for respite care - they made me realise just how good Broomcroft was.
It's not an easy decision - Good luck!

Northfield is on Roebuck Road at Walkley/Commonside (just off Crookesmoor Road) I think you're thinking of North Hill, that is at the end of Northhill Road

I dont usually visit nursing homes at that end of Sheffield, but did have the pleasure to call in on Henleigh Hall on one occasion, was a very nice place, a bit like a hotel when you first walk in, even got a sandwich and a cuppa.......my kind of people

I know it is not on your list but i know several people who have relations in Newfield nursing home at Cat lane Sheffield 2 it is only just outside the S8 postcode and they say it is a very nice place to stay.

I was in your position about two months ago when looking for somewhere for a relative, I looked at ten places in all, two of which are on your list.
I agree that Holmwood is very good but the thing that worried me about it was that it is run by a large organisation (Southern Cross Healthcare). Two of the other homes I visited (Chatsworth Grange and Heeley Bank - also possibly in your area) are part of the same group but I felt they were very poor - so it seems to be an organisation that has very variable standards.
In the end we chose Scarsdale Grange. My relative has been there for about five weeks, and it's a decision I'm still very comfortable with. Contrary to an earlier post, Scarsdale does cater for emi/nursing.

My mother has been at Norton Lees for the last 18 months and I can recommend it. The home is split into two, one half is residential care and the other EMI.

as well as taking into account the good folks on heres opinions, go up to the nursing homes unannounced and ask to be shown round - they should let you look around without an appointment, providing its a convenient time of day.
ask the residents what they think of the place.
i used to run a nursing home, and never objected to showing anyone round unless they turned up after 8pm
