Could the people who come from all over Sheffield to bowl PLEASE stop parking on the roads opposite Hillsborough Park? It is nigh on IMPOSSIBLE to park outside our own houses at any time of day. We have to drive round and round looking for somewhere near enough to get out of our car with our shopping; getting into rows with people driving down/cutting through our road because i'm being dropped off near my house. There is a large car park at Hillsborough Park with sufficient space in which to park for you all. It is a shorter walk from there to the bowling green than from outside my house. Thanks.

Not that I know of IamChiChi. It's open all day and night, has security on when there is a football match, but anyone can park there when using the park and it's facilities. The bowling green and pavilion is part of that.

Sorry, I misunderstood. No not on my road. It was looked at on mine (Lennox) but unfortunately it isn't happening. It's the same on match days and lots of people use it as a cut through from Far Lane. It causes such a nightmare when a member of my family visits and have to deal with nasty abusive drivers who can't wait for 1 minute. I should love to just leave my car in the middle of the road during one of those frequent occurrences, lock the door and just go in my house without a backward glance! LOL

I used to live on Dorothy Rd. and this used to happen then. It was almost as annoying as being able to hear their Tannoy system shouting out the pairings and scores all the while. But to be honest, it wasn't nearly as bad as on match days, and I could usually park outside my house even though I lived quite near the bottom of the road.

1. Was the bowling green there when you bought the house?
2. Have they got a valid tax disc?

Probably a YES to both.

Therefore, hard lines.

Unfortunately you've no more right to park on your road than they have. The permit scheme will reduce the number of spaces on your road too, so watch for that.
And if it's a problem "at any time of day", you might find that the cause of the parking shortage isn't down to visiting cars. Be prepared
If parking's a problem when returning with shopping, just stop in the road to unload.

Its a narrow road, usually parked both sides - I think that's when Brix13 gets shouted at for stopping to unload!

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a parking warden putting tickets on a couple of cars below the urban clearway signs on Lennox Road. That might persuade a few people to use the carpark - which except for match days is normally quite empty.

Perhaps a polite letter pointing out the problems to the members of the bowling club might result in them being more aware of the parking issues?

Good luck with that It is my experience that the crown green bowling fraternity can be quite bristly when approached about most things which may be seen as a criticism.

On a personal note: It is becoming quite tiresome that every thread we EVER get about Hillsborough seems to revolve around cars and parking.. after all it is a victorian outpost and wasn't built to hold so many cars and no amount of shifting them around will change that. I just wish folks choosing to move into the area would consider that.

(please folks don't flame me it's only an opinion).

I only know a couple of crown green bowlers, it's all flat greens where I come from! We all know communities get on better when there's a bit of consideration for others - I know parking issues cause frustration in the area, but there is a great big (usually fairly empty) car park just moments from the bowling green.

And don't some of the complaints come from people who lived there when families who lived in terraced houses didn't have four cars.. I just get fed up with people saying 'it's not illegal' or 'its not your right to park near your house'. We all know that, but with more and more cars sometimes a compromise is needed?

But you're right about new people moving into the area being aware of the parking issues, its one of the reasons why we didn't buy a terraced house when we came here 5 years ago. And apart from match days (which we accept), we rarely have any problems with parking. That's why I'm not saying where I live.

It's the same in any area where there are mostly terraced houses, like Crookes and Walkley. But people who moan the most, are the ones who have moved there knowing the area and then complain about not being able to park. The OP states when she has visitors there is nowhere to park, yet she complains about strangers parking.
We live on one such road at Crookes, and sometimes the only place we can park is the next road, but you just have to accept it, or live somewhere with semis and garages.

Why do people on these roads think they own them, its only a couple of weeks ago someone was complaining about people using them as park and ride for the trams. If you pay your road tax, insurance etc. you can park anywhere you want.

sorry but get a grip
it's a public road, they pay road tax and they are perfectly entitled to park there
I live by leppings lane and get the football parking. Yes it can be mildly irritating but they are can park there and i wouldnt moan about it or write to Sheffield Wednesday to make them aware of the issue
The club was there before I lived there. Have you lived on the road since before the bowls club?
No offence but get a bit of perspective

If I was to go and buy several pet sheep, I wouldn't expect large areas of public grassland to be magically made available for them to graze on right next to my house.

Similarly, if I decide to grow my own veg, I would accept that an allotment would not necessarily be on my doorstep, and I may have to travel to reach it.

So why do people without garages or driveways think that, just because they decide to buy cars, they have a God-given right to parking outside their house?

Beats me.

I can sympathise with the parking situation (live on a tram park and ride road myself) but if you did that to me I would not be happy. There's no reason why the road can't be used as a cut-through from Far Lane.
