Seeing as though the DVLA take an age to respond to any sort of query I was wondering if you could advise me as to the following. I committed the heinous offence of an SP30 over 4 years ago now. Is it possible I can send in my driving licence to have the evidence removed, or does it stay on there for all time? I am not altogether sure of the procedure.

I think they've changed it to 5 years now before you can get the points removed.

There are some details here.

Basically:

If you are a paper driving licence holder you must complete the D1 application form ensuring that all the relevant questions are answered. You will need to enclose original documentation confirming your identity, a passport style colour photograph, your current driving licence and enclose the appropriate fee.

If you are a photocard driving licence holder you will only need to complete the D1 application form and enclose both your photocard licence and D740 paper counterpart together with the appropriate fee.

According to the DVLA an SP30 expires after 4 years.

This fact and details on how to apply for "Removing Expired Endorsements" can be found here:

I have to PAY for the privilege? You have got to be kidding! I would rather have it on there for posterity. You will have to pay to fart in this country soon.

the points expire after 3, the offence can be removed from the license after 4. Although i don't know about the legality of insurance companies asking for 5 years history.

It has been my experience that if you only have 3 points on your licence it does not increase the premium you pay for your insurance. It just strikes me as a little cheeky that if you pay your £60 to have them put on, you shouldn't have to pay to have them taken off. I would never have had them put on in the first place!! I have done my time, now it is time they released me without charge.

well, strictly speaking you pay £60 as a fine, not to have them put on.

You pay for the administrative cost involved in having them removed, although whether you do or don't makes no difference as you no longer have to declare them, nor do they count towards your totting up total.

I know, I was being facetious.

I know that the charge is for administration fees but it always amazes me, how much administrative fees actually cost. I know my slate is now wiped clean. I just get irked at having to pay increasing amounts for every little thing I do.

Especially when the administrator who 'removes' the points probably takes 10 secs to do it and is paid about a fiver an hour.

I've managed to get points removed after their expiration period, by moving house (send DL for change of address - which is/was free) and they kill the points also.

Well, if you have a paper license, obviously it's easier to print the points on it than than remove them. That would require a new license being made.

Your best bet is probably to wait until you move house, you can get a new one when you change your address.

Edit: I see sccsux posted while I was typing.

But isn't that a more expensive way of doing it than just paying the admin fee?
