If they are anything like the one my brother has then yes. They are basically just standard flash memory sticks integrated into an MP3 player. You obviously won't be able to view the photos on the player itself because it doesn't have a display but plug it into your computer's USB port and it just becomes another drive on your computer.

a lot of mp3 players can be used as mass storage
they are normally a bit larger than a memory stick and are more expensive but at least they arent just stuck there gathering dust
and some do display pics, daughters got a Creative Zen MicroPhoto and stores her pics on it

Any usb drive can store any type of file - they don't care whether it's photos, video, music, Word documents or whatever. The only limit is the storage capacity of the device.

The Lexar Firefly is a small fast USB stick. Fits on your keyring and available up to 16gb.

The usb sticks that double up as mp3 players are generally rubbish - cheap, plasticy with a fiddly little lcd - pointless.
You'd be better off with something like this which you can ALSO use as a storage device:

I got a 16 Gb flash drive for 17.99 from Play.com - looked exactly like an 'Integral' - offering the same capacity in a different shell now and if memory serves me right p&p is free.

Remember to format your stick when you get it and create folders otherwise you might lose those valuable photos.
For editing Paint Shop Pro is good and the ultimate version comes with photo recovery software as well.

This is the USB drive I'm using at the minute - great because of its size (it fits on my keyring!) and cheap too...

This is correct - the only other thing which differentiates between them is the speed, which makes a big difference when you use the larger ones (8Gb / 16 Gb / 32Gb) to back up a lot of files. The good ones are more pricey but often show the read/write speed on the box
