Hello all,
We are moving to Sheffield area and have come across some properties we like in Oughtibridge. We do have 1 car but both of us need to be in Sheffield and chances are , at different times.
Was hoping for some feedback on public transport/ease of commuting to Sheffield and anything in general about the area. Oh, and one last thing, how is it pronounced?

Moved to Oughtibridge(locals pronounce it 'uti' but i call it 'outi') a few years back. We moved from Walkley wanting to upgrade in property and get my OWN car parking space lol. Walkley you generally have to fight for a space if you live on certain streets. My other half still works there daily and her general commute via car is around 5-10 mins. buses go pretty generally i think around 4 an hour??? Around 2-3 miles from hillsborough so not far. Town will take 20-25 mins?
We decided to move to Oughtibridge as we loved the quiet area and beautiful rural countryside including the trans pennine trail. Walk up there in the pine forest and the views are breathtaking. House prices were fantastic at the time, not sure if they've risen now. If you've got kids the primary schools are exceptional and bradfield school is one of best in sheffield. Have had no problems at all with noise, riff raff or anything like that. Makes a nice change from my job lol.
Not really into pub scene so couldn't comment on that. Really nice chinese thou and i heard the restaurant Julios is great. 2 local shops and a post office is all u get but it keeps the village feel tbh. A new Asda and Sainsburys will be opening soon around foxhill area so thats a bonus for the weekly shop. Altogether me and mrs still pinch ourselves now and then on how nice this little village is. Hearing a sheep or cow in the dead of night is

I live in Oughtibridge.
Lovely place. I drive so not really aware of the bus services. Although my daughter uses the tram bus thing, which takes her to Middlewood tram stop and then into the city or Meadowhall.
Village could do with a shop that sells fresh stuff but I suppose everyone shops in tesco now so not much call for it. Nice place to live, but not exactly a village anymore as the locals will tell you. More of a commuter belt.
Pronounced oo-tee-bridge.

I'd like to "ditto" Event Horizo in most things........
Lovely place, most people speak when out walking the dog (not found it like richjones30 says), nice park for the kids, not far up to the woods - can walk for hours in there, Pheasant Inn is nice - does food now, Julios is a nice resturant, Chinese at Wharncliffe Side is miles better than the one in Oughtibridge.
As to the transport - the Supertram shuttle service runs from Stocksbridge to the tram stop at Middlewood every 10 mins stopping in Oughtibridge on the way. Or if you want the leisure centre in Stocksbridge the no.57 runs through Oughtibridge and stops outside the place.
All in all I would give our move to Oughtibridge 10/10

My mate used to live on Newstead Ave in Oughtibridge and from what i knew it's a fab little area, the only problem he used to find and moan about were that the people tended to be quite cliquey in the pubs and most wanted to know your business but then again most small places are like that, tbh that side of things doesn't really bother me so I'd recommend it.

I like Oughtibridge, although like he says, everyone wants to know your business. It's a nice compromise though, within reach of the city and the country. There's a few nice pubs there too. My daughter went to Oughtibridge primary school and then Bradfield and both are nice schools.

i lived there for a year, Julio's is a good little restaurant, and it was nice being out in the countryside. Buses are pretty regular, the people are generally friendly and overall i'd recommend it

Since the introduction of the supertram link bus, getting into the centre of Sheffield has never been easier. It runs every 10 mins to Middlewood tram stop during the day, but ends about 7.30ish I think.
