just curious. I would'nt use it myself unless I was getting sustained abuse.

Does anyone use it?

I use the ignore member option only on one person even thou it makes the forum look untidy..The question is how do you stop people you don't want sending you a pm?

Most people get the message when they are ignored after sending a PM. If they're being abusive, threatening or a general nuisance then report them.

I have used it on a couple of people. I have no interest in what they have to say, but as said, it does make the pages look quite untidy.

That's because you're so nice!

I think most people who have to use it are not exactly blameless... people hardly ever bother you unless you have done something to provoke it.

Well, that's certainly not been my experience, and that was before and after I became a mod.

I think we have to accept that in an on-line community there will be a proportion of nutters. There are some delusional people on here, but I like to keep my eye on them rather than ignoring them. What's that saying? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

I did say most, not all... I'm sure if you're a regular and flamboyant poster you attract some weirdos as well as fans.

What actually happens when you ignore someone? Do their posts still appear but just as white space or something? I was going to try but didn't want to hide someone forever by accident!

It's a bit pointless really. I turned it on once and straight back off again........ for the reasons outlined by Kristian

Besides - if somebody else quotes a post you're ignoring, can you still see the quote?

I've never actually ignored anyone on here, and in fairness I don't think I would as a Moderator. I seem to recall that if you ignore someone you can't see any thread they start, and logic would say that their posts just don't appear in any other thread you view, but not sure for definate.

Result: I can read Kristian's post in full - complete with Snook's quote

I knew there was a reason I'd decided it was pointless

I let my curiosity get the better of me and know I have ignored someone and cant un-ignore them. oops. How do you do it? When I go back to the same place I ignore them from it still says add to your ignore list.

EDIT: Doh! Found it, silly me!
