Hi,

I used to get my dog's wormer and flea stuff from the vets but remember seeing a post on here about it being cheaper online (I can't find the post). I'm just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in terms of which site and how much wormer i will need and which brand (he's a lab 2 1/2 years) and also the wormer/tick stuff. I think It was Drontal last time we had, any others out there which are good?

thanks x

For my cats (I dont have dogs!) I use petmeds, just google it. I use drontol wormer, and frontline flea drops. The drops what are in excess of £30 for 6 droplets at vets/chemists etc are £19 incl postage on there. They arrive within a few days too. I also, leave a note at the end of checkout saying please package into letterbox parcels. Because I wont be in most of the time and the postman has a thing about leaving me 'not in' cards So when I order, they come in 4 or 5 little boxes, what go through the letter box easy (I order bulk, every 3 months or so) There are some others what people use but im not sure about them, ive personally never used them. x

Pet meds have always been good for me and they have a price guarentee and have just price matched some when i found Frontline a bit cheaper on another site.
They always used to support Rain Rescue as well

Can I ask?

Do you need a prescription to buy online ( i know as i type it sounds silly!) and does the stuff mentioned above protect like the stuff from vets. My puppy is 6 months and I'm just about to use my last wormer and flea stuff from the vets.

No Sally, you just go online, order it, pay, and it arrives within a few days. Its the exact same stuff as vets - if you use frontline etc. Nothing different apart from its cheaper!x

Hi Gina2007,

Thank you. The vet gave me advantage for my pup, but said that was as he was a puppy, when he was over 6 months, he would give him something else, I guess that would be frontlile, (but I've heard of Drontal??).

Can i please ask what you use, what you suggest?

As someone said above petmeds is a good one, or I use petplanet (which ever seems to be cheaper) with regards to amount there will be a dosage sheet to refer to, going by weight (very important to get the right weight, most vets will let you walk in to use the scales) word of warning I'd tell anyone to avoid buying the Bob Martin wormer's from the supermarkets, my 3 were ill for days after giving them this, and I mean really ill!

I don't flea my dogs though, never had a problem with fleas! must be something to do with where we live!

Thank you Becks37,

I know my dogs weight, he was only weighed a few weeks ago, and as a JR he's quite small and vet thinks he's as big as he's going to get, but will get broader. He was 5.5kg when he was castrated 3 weeks ago, so I will probaby order based on that weight, do you think this is right?

As for Bob Martin, being a lurker on this page, i've read many a post saying NOT to use it, so I'll def stay away from that!

I just want to make sure I get the right stuff that covers everything as my vet said some wormers only treat certain worms but not others. It's all rather confusing for me

Ive got cats, and I swear by frontline fleadrops and drontol wormers. Someone with dogs might advise different. Ive always sworn by frontline though, and I think most vets recommend it. Ask your vet if they recommend frontline, get your dog weighed and then say you'll go back for it but dont, go online and order it

I found petplanet to be extremely expensive for wormer so much so that i phoned to check the price was correct. I use vetuk or petmeds and have found them to be much cheaper at the times i have needed to order and have price checked.

Netpetshop is really good - £3.06 for a Drontal worming tablet

http://www.netpetshop.co.uk/c-634-dog-wormers.aspx

And Frontline between £13.27 and £18.38 (depending on size)

I use advocate on my dogs as it kills most worms too. Then there's a pill called Something that sounds like drontal but isn't. Lol. That kills the worm that advocate doesn't. Maybe tapeworm. Advocate does all the fleas, ticks, heartworm, lungworm, all the really nasty stuff

Hi,

Ok I've had a loooong day of study, and I read your post and I'm confused (doesn't take much ) Is it advocate for certain worms and fleas, something else for the rest of the worms?.
