Yes I easily manage 8 glasses, but first mix it with either hops, barley and yeast, or coffee beans.

This is only partly true, and a larger part of the reason for drinking at least eight glasses a day is to alleviate dehydration - an awfully large number of people are partially dehydrated.

Of course, the hypothetical glasses are quite small ones, so if like me you drink out of a pint mug, you do not need to drink eight pints of water a day.

The reality is that the "8 glasses" recommendation has no scientific basis, is not medically necessary and really hogwash.

It is suggested that the recommendation arose from someone taking a research article referring to a bodies total water requirement, out of context and omitting to refer to the most important part that stated that most of this water requirement is provided in our existing daily food intake.

As usual, multiple repetition by the media and internet eventually renders nonsense into a 'known fact'.

Drink on!

In addition I understand that it makes next to no difference how you take on the water so coffee, tea, pop, wine, beer will all have the same hydrating benefit. I'm not aware of any credible 'detox' effects of water.

So, as cgksheff says; drink on!

I remember seeing a Richard Hammond 'Should be worried about....' programme where they tested this need for water for a month in identical twins. Both monitored by a doctor. One had the recommended 2 litres a day and the other had much less.

The end result was no detectable physiological differences between them. Your body compensates by retaining water if you don't drink a lot of it.
