THE landmark Beauchief Hotel is set to enjoy a new lease of life after being taken over by one of the city’s most successful partnerships.
BrewKitchen – an established joint venture between Richard Smith’s restaurant group and Thornbridge Brewery – moved in on Friday, with ambitious plans to revive the business to its former popularity.
The Beauchief is currently closed but it will reopen next month with a classic cellar bar, restaurant, function room, eight bedrooms and offices.
BrewKitchen was approached by owners Sheafbank Investments following the demise of former operators Kenwright Investments Ltd.

The chef from Samuel fox, Charlie, will be heading up the team. This is something I'm really looking forward to - I've had some amazing meals at Sam Fox!

Sheffield will soon be adding `in conjunction with Richard Smith and Thornbridge Brewery to its signage!`

That's just what I was thinking Jemson. Still, I have to admit, I'd trust them to make a good job of the Beauchief. They've made a good job of most other things they've turned their hand to.
This is indeed good news for any Sheffielder who likes good food and drink in pleasant surroundings and doesn't need to ask...

Yawn. Variety, spice, life, etc.
I'll still check it out, but too much of a good(?) thing is kinda depressing.
I quite liked enjoying the vibe of The Cricketers one night, the madness that was Gimme The Night (@ Christians) the next. Then perhaps a trip to the (old) Trippets for some bubbly on another night.
Now it's gonna be all so samey sadly.

What people fail to have noticed is that it seems the majority of these 'Thornbridge Pubs' are all still PubCo leases.
The Cricket, Hallamshire and The Greystones are all still Enterprise pubs.
Jim Harrisons accounts show a running loss for his business according to some nationally published articles. Should any of his business situation change and he not be able to continue running the pubs they would revert back to an open market lease bid.
Had he actually bought them and then turned them around I could believe all the hype, but technically he is helping the PubCo out, adding value in refurbs and in sales. Through his investment he free's part of the 'Tie' so he can sell his beer.

well thank god, at least a chef has gone in to make it work as it should have. chris kent is the most over rated chef ive ever come across. he's now opened and closed 2 restaurants in sheffield that have never survived on his cooking abilities.

Personally we always enjoyed the food at the Blue Room and Christian's ; does anyone know if (or where) he's cooking these days?

See post #108 above in conjunction with this:

Not really surprised that The Beauchief didn't work out. Limited market for the samey vision of Sheffield nightlife that some of the Thornbridge/BrewKitchen enterprises propagate.
I wish the new launch all the best. I have enjoyed nights out at Relish so hopefully this might have a similar, less stuffy feel.
Would love to get involved in any entertainment ideas that these people are hatching for Jack's Bar. If you're reading this give me a shout!

You seem to weirdly contradict yourself...you say there was a limited market for Brewkitchen places and yet celebrate the fact its becoming more like Relish...Can we assume you never actually went?
Its a shame - the food under Charlie at the Beauchief was really very good and a complete change from their other places.
The place was sadly let down by poor atmos and some really useless waiting staff (not inc. manager kelly) who I presume they inherited from the debacle that was Christians.
A shame then that Brewkitchen is turning the place into another copy of Relish.
Richard Smith started out being a creative innovative chef but seems to have really sold out in recent times ...guess that Overfinch RR doesnt fuel itself....!

Erm... Assume all you like. You'll be very wrong. I've been to Relish on more than one occasion actually. I've eaten there (had the very tasty scallops if you must know), and had drinks and listened to the excellent DJ they had once on a Sunday night (this was a while back don't know if they still have DJs)
As for self-contradictions; perhaps you'd like to read a little more carefully before reaching for the keyboard to fire off invective. I said " some of the T/BK establishments".
Yes? That is "some" not "all". Clear? Cool.

Went last month with a group of friends.
It was ok. Service was very pleasant but also very rushed. They wanted us in early to get us out early.
Not bad value for money tbh - but the food wasn't so special that we'd rush back again. Pleasant but not outstanding.
Good beer though!
