Went to Lokanta in Broomhill last night (the new Turkish restaurant where Cipolla used to be).

It was really good. We had a selection of 5 meze which was plenty for 2 of us and one glass of wine. The bill came to just under £28. The service was good. When we arrived they gave us (without us asking for it) a jug of iced water and some of their bread with a fantastic tomato salsa-type thing as a dip.

All the meze were really tasty and not greasy in spite of a few of them being fried. The calamari with walnut pesto was particularly memorable.

We will certainly go again. It was really quiet but apparently it gets busy at weekends.

Sounds great. I love Turkish food. Where exactly is it? A while since I've been out in Broomhill and don't even recall Cipolla!

If you're interested, have a look at their website http://www.lokanta.co.uk/ - their menu is on there.

There's another new turkish place on West street -Mangal - but I can't find a menu online - any comparisons to Lokanta?

I haven't been to the one on West St. but judging by the review in the Sheffield Telegraph, I would say Lokanta is cheaper and I think the food may be slightly more interesting.... but that's purely a guess

Went here on Sunday and really enjoyed it. There was a 'lunchtime' (until 5pm) deal on - three meze and bread for £9.95.

We had the complimentary iced water, gorgeous flatbread (some of the best I've had in Sheffield) and salsa dip after we sat down. Then, between two of us, 6 meze, which was really plenty. Highlights were the really well cooked bass fillet, the lamb's liver with onions and great hummus.

We also had mint tea, which was made properly, not with a Twinings bag like I would at home.

The man who served us said he was considering doing slow roast lamb on Sundays in future. Sounds like it could be great.

It's more restauranty than some of the other Sheffield Turkish places - which I do also really like - so if you wanted your surroundings to be a little more upmarket, your food a little more delicate, it's worth a go.

Anyway, Lokanta is recommended after my first visit.

Like the sound of that. Will definitely be going. I agree about the other Turkish places - great food, but not the sort of place you'd take the wife for her birthday! If they start doing slow roast lamb, I'll live there.

Because the building was redeveloped and there wasn't appropriate space in the new building for the restaurant. I think the owners wanted a break - there was talk of them doing something in the future (not necessarily in Broomhill) but I'm not sure if anything has come of it.

It was great. Try the Siam Inter on London Road if you liked Bahn Nan. Equally good food and service, and very "Thai" interior.

Back on topic, going to Lokanta on Saturday!

I think they may do takeaway but you will have to check.

Went to Lokanta for lunch today and it was great. We had 4 meze between 2 of us plus 2 glasses of wine, together with bread and the yummy tomato dip, plus one turkish coffee and the bill came to just over £20. The meze were freshly prepared and all of them were incredibly tasty.

They are really quiet at lunch time and are going to be doing more lunch-type things to attract more custom. It would be great if more people go along to try this place out - it is so good, I'd hate for it to close.
