Should the Pets group now be on the main page of Sheffield Forum?

After looking at the number of hits that the Pet Group gets now

On 15th Jan 2010 it had 11,614 threads and 135,719 views I wondered if it should now qualify to be moved onto the front page as it is obviously a subject that gets a lot of interest from members.

Out of the 8 groups on the front page - we would be 7th - but could probably rise to 6th with the move. Lots more interest than the History which has managed to claim a front page spot, and I would have thought is more of an 'interest group' than us. We are part and parcel of Sheffield.

Pets is a passion and about half the population are interested in pets in some way - even if they don't own one.

What do others think - would it attract more people to be involved and more importantly offer help and advise to members about what to do if they need help.

So - how about it Mods - can we be promoted?

Deffo agree with u rainrescue pets need promotion. Alot of people do not know where the pets is, and if they are not very good on PC, if pets was on the front page it would be more accesiable (sp) and hopefully rehome more animals

i agree i did not even know sf had a pets section untill i got told off for advertising a pet in the wrong place

My worry though would be if we would attract more 'trouble' comments than we would friends?

Just a thought - its a really good group here and I wouldn't want to rock the boat.

Two minds. It's a group I love to read/comment but would like a 'quicker' link. Having to go and seek it out is a bit of a pain (daft as that sounds as it's just a couple of clicks) but at the same time those with genuine interest will do so, like myself, or have it bookmarked anyway for a direct link

As it is not mainly Sheffield related. I think it could possibly go in the "General" Section".

I think the "Sheffield" section is a long enough allready.

This one won't be happening for a number of reasons. The structure of the groups means that the area can be looked after much more carefully than the main forum and thanks to the ongoing attention and hard work of the group leaders we mostly have a good balance of discussion and manners in the group.

However, pets remains one of the most emotionally volatile areas of the forum and this would be likely to deteriorate if the threads were moved to the main forum, so we aren't considering a move on to the main forum.

Yep I agree Medusa once I thought about it. Initially I thought it would attract new members, but then wondered - maybe they wouldn't be beneficial to us and I agree - it must be a hard one for anyone to monitor as things can get out of control easily with such an emotive subject.

Can I just thank all the mods for the hard work that they do monitoring it and keeping such a lovely atmosphere and character within it.

but is there any pets section here anywhere ? Somewhere hidden away in a sub-section at all ?

Just a thought, but couldn't the pets group, together with the other sub-groups, be mentioned underneath the interests groups title on the main page, with links to them straight away ?

I'd imagine theres too many to list them all fairly but I see what you mean

They are listed like that if you click on the Sheffield tab, which you can see in the blue bar near the top of the home page.

Definitely. It's the only one I visit in that whole section and so many posts are lost...
