Bin men didn't get here for 3 weeks. Our usual day Monday. When they finally came yesterday the road was worse than it was last week.

I agree.
Everything goes to poo when we have snow.
Dont get me wrong, I like looking at it.............. but the disruption it causes is just stupid.
Gritters should be out EVERY day when the weather is this bad.
I also hope my bin gets emptied on Thursday otherwise we are buggered!!

I don't think it's too bad, like the buses were all off earlier and some are back on now thanks to the grit. I'm sure gritters were out as soon as the snow started. I thought they could do better but they can't be everywhere at once. I don't know how many trucks they have but Sheffield is a massive area let's not forget, they can only do their best, they're never going to be able to clear all the snow and ice, I'm sure they're doing everything they can with what they have.

Psst.... they are.
And every night.
I even saw one gritting a minor side road at lunchtime on Christmas Day.

Of course, Sheffield being so incompetent, all other regions are not having any problems, have cleared all the snow off all the roads, got masses of salt spare.
why not get a job as head of street force.
I'm sure you can also do a much better job as manager of both football teams as well.

from the SCC webpage. in an attempt to stop the winging
That we should keep more salt on stock, just in case
Although we had enough salt last year to keep treating the network and refilling the salt bins, we have reviewed our stock levels and have significantly (by around 50%) increased them for 2009/10.
That we should make the salt we use less corrosive
The majority of the salt that we use is actually a product called ‘Safecote’. This is conventional 6mm rock salt coated in molasses. This product is less corrosive than plain rock-salt alone. The CAPSIS report (Evaluation of Safecote Products using Electrochemical Techniques – November 2003) supports this indicating that the ‘Safecote’ product is a significant corrosion inhibitor (up to 82% reduction in corrosion).
