Hello there,

I've got a first edition book, apparently rare, does anyone know of anywhere that I can take the book to get it valued? I've found the book on websites, but want to take it to someone to actually see, as I have no clue how to compare it online, not knowing anything about books.

The book, just in case any of you know - is ''of aucassin and nicolette and amabel and amoris'' by Laurence Housman, drawings by Paul Woodroffe, engraved on the wood by Clemence Housman. Published by John Murray, London.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is this the 1902 edition or the 1925 one? It looks as though the only really valuable ones are the 160 special copies signed by author and illustrator, from what I can see on abebooks. Everything else will depend a lot on condition; judging by the fact that you can pick up the ordinary 1925 Chatto & Windus edition for less than $10, albeit in not fantastic condition, it doesn't appear to be particularly sought after.

If you want to actually take it somewhere, I'd suggest Rare & Racy on Division Street; or Scarthin Books at Cromford; or Scrivener's Books at Buxton. There used to be a decent bookshop at Holmfirth as well but I think it's shut now, though they may still operate online (Toll House books, it was called).

I missed the bit about it being published by John Murray, which would mean it's the 1902 edition. Doesn't seem to fetch an enormous amount even so (about $20-30); trouble is, if you went round those three shops you'd probably spend as much in petrol almost!
