You generally sit wherever you want to.

The only time I've known seats be allocated is when there's a very popular new film come out and they allocate seats then, but that's once in a blue moon.

You have to choose your seats at the Vue cinema at Meadowhall, either by paying through one of those machines where it's touchscreen, or by asking over the counter. Hope this helps!

it was a favourite of mine, when ripping tickets on the door, to respond to the question "can i sit anywhere?" with "just the red seats"... then watch as they walk in to the cinema and realise all the seats were red :-)

Sorry, my post above referred to Cineworld. I don't use the one at Meadowhall.

Take your own fold up chair and you'll be able to sit wherever you want

More recently I've noticed Cineworld just handing out tickets without Seat numbers on them, and when I've entered the screen (15 minutes after the shown 'start time' to account for adverts and trailers) it's been 90-95% full making a decent seat almost impossible to find, however I suppose this is down to the fact that they didn't expect the screening(s) to get as full as it/they did.

However, if we're in Screens 19 or 20 we don't mind where we sit. Comfortable seats, huge amoung of leg-room and a very intimate setting in general as they only contain a hundred or so seats. If your going to see Avatar in 3D, I suggest you try and get a screening in either 19 or 20, it'll make your experience a lot more pleasureable.

I think usually in multiscreens dont they just allow you to sit where you want?

Not sure if they still do it as I havent been for a while but at The Showroom they used to let you pick your seat number from a flatscreen monitor when buying your ticket.

Then you would stroll into the cinema to find only about 5 people scattered in all 4 corners...bliss!
