Help, emergency!!!!
We need a santas grotto and the one Meadowhall has been sold out.
I'm hoping that Father Christmas has not upset the PC Spoilsports at the Council, and that there is a Santas Grotto in Sheffield City Centre.
There was one in the Peace Gardens a couple of years ago but that is not there. DOes anyone know where there is a Santas Grotto?

Are you saying that it's ticket only for santa and they've sold out??? Glad I was a kid in the 70's and 80's - you just queued then and recieved a pic and a selection box in waferthin paper!

I don't understand how a Santa's Grotto in one of the biggest shopping malls in England can sell out

You book online for the one at Meadowhall, or alternatively you go to the box office on the day. Its a risky option going to Meadowhall with Children, going to the Box Office (with no doubt lots of other eager kids wanting to see santa) and the being turned away.
Surely, Santas Grotto must be a real money spinner for the council, so why on earth don't they have one? While adults are producing children, surely there is a never ending supply of eager kids.
I think the reason it has sold out is the shear numbers of kids that want to see santa and so few grottos. With regards the lights in Sheffield, they lack something, ie, the christmas lights don't feel christmassy.
I too am glad I was a kid in the 80s

That's bizarre - know that santa is all over Nottingham - but then that's probably a bit far for you, but there you still just queue and see him when it's your turn... Sheffield council probably just don't want a law suit if they hire a kiddie fiddler by accident! My mate was santa last Saturday in Rossington Doncaster - he hasn't got a CRB check so they are not as concerned over there... Look into what other towns and cities locally are up to if you want your kids to see him this year...

Santa's Grotto was at Tudor Square last year wasn't it? I suppose they can't have it there this year due to the works taking place. I'm sure there is on in town somewhere?

There used to be plenty in Sheffield and I recall being taken to them in the Co-op in town and also the huge S & E Co-op which used to be at the bottom of Ecclesall Road. I think Schofield's also had a grotto as did Rackham's.
But the best one I went to in Sheffield was situated off the Moor near to Moorfoot on derelict land. There seemed to be hundreds of Christmas trees lit up which you walked through to get to Father Christmas himself. It was open-air and wonderful.
But then again, 1970s Christmas decorations in town were a different matter entirely - we had fantastic deccies including the dancing fountains in the Peace Gardens.

We went to see Santa at Crystal Peaks, and have to say was very dissapointing.
Accepted the Elves, and Santa himself was friendly enough, but the whole experience for the children lasted no more than 2 minutes tops. Very expensive for 2 minutes
We have been to Grottos in the past where there was a bit of a wonderland experience prior to meeting Santa, but not today.
