Doing a little festive shopping in town yesterday I popped into Betterbuy's (choccie fix), there was this lad walking about the shop singing (rapping) with his headphones on, but basically he was shouting "<removed> white scum", incidentally he then knocked over all the baskets with his bike.

This made me think about a few other musical incidents of late where i've heard blatant anti white rhetoric blasting out of cars and 'walkmans'. It's just made me think how people treat music differently to if someone was just spouting stuff like this.

For instance i've fairly recently had a new neighbour who in certain conversations has shown that he's a racist, but because it's in conversation I can challenge his 'very stupid' views and rationalise his reasoning.

But how do you challenge this almost passive yet blatant racism?

Yes its odd isn't it how people treat music differently. Despite my feminist leanings I listen to a bit of really mysogynistic hip hop because I like the sounds.

..well you're talking to me about something Im completely unfamiliar, so Ive no idea what the context is other than what the OP describes.

If it's racist then obviously I dont condone it whoever it's directed at and it's not helpful for the cause of humanity.

I dont suppose anymore can be done to the people who listen to it, than the people who listen to the racist content of the BNP constitution for example...neither group are the brightest bulb in the box and frankly not people I'd be wanting to associate with.

Rightly or wrongly the people who run and follow the BNP are given flak in the press for supporting it.
