I just wondered, as I've seen a few threads mentioning pubs with karaoke and nights out, whether it is as popular as it has always been.
I seem to remember it being really quite big in the mid 90's but I thought it had died a death since then and was seen as being a bit naff, a bit tacky, a bit Netto or Poundshop.
So, do you still like karaoke? Do you belt out your favourite songs in an off-key manner down the local or do you cringe and put your hands over your ears at the mere mention of it?

On a related note, people are claiming that pubs are starting to have wiis in them instead of karaoke - is this just people repeating the advert, or has anyone actually seen them?

Lots of people still do Kareoke and there's a good few DJ's on here that do it:- Ghostrider, Classic Rock to name but two.
I'd say it was still alive and well

Karaoke is still very popular. I've been happily running karaoke nights as a DJ for years. In fact I'm doing one this Thursday at the Royal Standard, so if you've never tried it or fancy having a go, do pop in and join in.

I enjoy karoake sometimes, it's a mood thing to me. I do not like it however when you get the same people getting up time and time again. I find too that they are usually the worst singers!

Wouldn't be surprised if Wii's in pubs broke some sort of health and safety law and they only exist in Ant and Dec's feverish imagination.

Not too long ago, there were a couple of pubs that had guitar hero that was onto a 6 foot screen via projector.....not seen a wii yet though.

Oh, I hate it with a passion As to whether it's still popular, I wouldn't know as I avoid the pubs where they practice crimes against humanity.
I believe the Guitar Hero is the way forward. As for Wii, the Common Room has previously had games nights involving the wii.

I once went to a bar in Ibiza where they had swimwear Karaoke, anyone who sang had to wear swimwear . I think it was to stop them perspiring. I did enjoy watching half of the acts.
I guess that the idea could catch on in sunny Sheffield too!
