Hello
We are thinking of moving and have seen a house in Halfway that we like. We do not know the area that well apart from when we have done a reccy etc. The house is just past Morrisons and off Hollow Lane.
I suppose my question is: what is it like to live there? Anybody from this part of town with any comments?
Thinking of starting a family and it's very suburban (some may say boring?) which we kinda like.
I've read some old posts but just wondered if anyone has comments?
Thanks
Doc

Look out for the green lamposts on the main road, which actually vent underground gas

Council estate is a bit rough, but the private housing is generally OK. As WarPig says watch out for the green lamposts venting Methane from the disused mine workings. No need to buy a BBQ, just ram a drain pipe into the earth and light it! Heathlands is built on this and there were concerns over whether the housing was affected by Radon when we looked at one a few years back. Good transport links, pubs dodgy though!

On the main road to Eckington near the traffic lights, both sides of the road.
Pubs:- Only one at Halfway ... Double Top, I think that pub was the inspiration for the pub on Shameless.

The green posts are on Rotherham Road.
Mosborough is a good night out, quite a few pubs and always busy.

Thanks for the info. Re: the green lamposts...just curious I suppose.
Gonna have another drive down this weekend to get a feel for the area.

Well yes, the green lamposts are relevant as it gives an indication of either Radon or Methane problems in existence now or in the past. On a structural survey this would show and obviously affect the price of the property.

Halfway :
Advantages: new built up area is good, especially across the Morrison, good neighbourhood. No trouble in last 4years.Crystal peak close by-all important shops closeby.Very close to junction 30.Sports centre within a mile and a school-although not a great one.One small pub but another next to cystal peak.Tram close by with good bus connections to city centre.2 good supermarkets -Morrison and Sainbury with petrol stations.
Disadvantages:
Can't think of but school could be one.
Not sure of what is said ofMethane -5 years back checked and there was
no problem,and houses still selling.

I know this is an old thread but I think Sedith is painting a somewhat unfair picture of Halfway. The council estate is not particularly rough at all, the green pipes do indeed vent methane gas but the houses near to Morrison's were built regardless so that is obviously not a danger. The area is pretty quiet and has good access to the motorway, public transport. As for the pub, I think Shameless is pure snobbery but I would prefer Mosborough.
