that's very useful - thank you

I hope if anybody sees anybody else taking salt from these bins in large quantities this year they report them. Those bins are for use in the local vicinity!

This is very useful indeed thank you, i will pass this information on to my mum, on her street it's had a salt bin since i was a kid, but also it has never been fill up for many many years also. Now know who to contact i will let her know, she lives on a hill with a very tight corner at the top of the road that is hard to get up unless its salted by car or foot when snow or ice is down. I know her and many others have contacted the council loads of times to get it re-filled but never has.

Every year people complain about the gritters not doing their jobs but, Ringinglow Road gets gritted very well throughout the Winter months, I should know I travel 30,000 miles per year and I take this route over to Manchester, I see them out at all hours, well done gritting lads. Before anyone on here has a go at me, I'm not a lorry driver!

You (or some gritter does) come down Ringinglow Road about 9:00 p.m.as I'm either just coming home or going out to re-fuel for next morning, I usually give you a wide berth so that I don't get "peppered" so I'll give you a wave next time I see you, just don't give me a "two-fingered" one back!

Ah I see.

Do you have a set route to do then or do you have a list of road you have to do and tick them off as you grit them?

Have the council ever got around to re-filling the bins from the last cold weather? After all apparently the council was running low on rock salt.

Ours was completley cleared out by some bloke in a van. It was then refilled by the council with some useless sandy stuff that smells of rotting fruit.

It depends what you call large quantities, the problem is that on my estate for instance I can only see 2 bins to serve a large estate I guess that for people such as myself it will be a case of cadging a lift and grabbing a couple of bags full or else how do you get it home?
