Some people believe that large cats (possibly panthers) are living wild in Britain. Has there been any sighting near Sheffield? I seem to remember reading about one in the Bradfield area some time back.

I've also seen some big 'rats' around the area, felt sure one the other day was a dog , until it stopped, raised on its back legs and then left via the pedestrian crossing back to the alley at Firth Park..

Thats right Roger, there was a sighting over our way at Aston but I think it was a while ago and a chap saw it on the fields to the right after you pass the Red Lion pub at Todwick traffic ligths as you head out on the A 57 towards South Anston.

I saw the Aston/ Swallownest one myself in the late 80's early 90's.
Me & a mate were walking home to Anston from Crystal Peaks cos we'd missed the last bus after the cinema.
It was well after midnight & it ran across the road in front of us about 200 yards away.
Too big to be a domestic or ferral pussy, too fluid ('sexy- cat-like') to be a mutt.

I wonder why people are always looking at Big Cats and reporting them.
Can't a Big Cat have any privacy at all ? I mean , aren't they entitled to nip out at night for a couple of rabbits or a drink ?
I know if I were a Big Cat , minding my own business at midnight , near Aston , and Don and his mate came bearing down on me , in the dark , I'd skedaddle across the road too.

I heard about the sighting a while back.

Hmmmm Big Cats Eh!!!! sounds like it could be one of those cats that get fed too much by this woman sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8017... hence the reason she keeps wanting to borrow money.

On the same Cryptozooalogical(!) theme, did anyone see the story in the metro today about a "crocodile" living in the thames?According to the report, its being blamed for a number of dissapearing birds(a canadian goose was mentioned) and dogs
It seems the pesky reptile is living in an area earmarked for development for the olympics.Guess its one way of making the boat races more exciting
