Just the last few weeks - traffic getting really bad again. Tonight - absolutely horrendous in the middle of town. I cycle but even that was hard work tonight as the traffic was so snarled up (and don't start another pointless I Hate Cyclists thread)

And yet another thread moaning about how bad the traffic is isn't pointless?

I find that cyclists have a different Highway Code to the motorised people and therefore are "good game".

Traffic always seems worse than it is when it's dark in the rush hour - which is not to say tha traffic last night was not worse than normal (I wasn't in it!), but that if it was, it would appear even worse due to it being dark.

It was very heavy last night on Glossop Road, at 7pm The traffic was virtually at a standstill. I wondered if the was flooding some where, or an accident.

I find it ironic that most people who complain about traffic are motorists and can't seem to work out that they're part of the problem. If they left the car at home and took the bus or tram to work then there wouldn't be a traffic problem!

Why do the majority of cyclist opt to use langsett road when there is a well marked cycle lane ?

When it is dark, when it rains and when it snows, traffic always slows to suit the conditions. Cyclists still have their own agenda which is " I go where I want, traffic lights and footpaths are to be used as and when. Why should we have lights, you should be able to see us".

That does cause traffic but sometimes it slows beyond what the conditions require. Like the person with only one rear light who was crawling along the A57 yesterday at speeds down to 15-20mph with about 40 cars following.

Thanks for letting me know about this tram thing. I live in Nether Edge and work in town - which stop would you recommend me using?

I drive to work as the buses are irregular, expensive and busy whilst the staff are rude and prone to striking. Plus my car is warm, comfortable, quiet and has Radio 4.

There was an accident in Broomhill. When I went past at about 6.15, someone had just managed to crash into the sign on the central reservation just at the point where Manchester Road goes off to the right, and a fire engine had just drawn up and firemen were poking about under the bonnet. The result was the road up to Fulwood being completely blocked, so I'm guessing this was what you ran into. Don't think anybody was hurt, the driver had already got out anyway.

The period we are now in, ie November / early December, is always the busiest time of year for traffic, due to Christmas shoping etc.

Nobody was hurt. The accident was caused due to the motorist swerving when he saw a cyclist. He still did not manage to hit him however.

The tram doesn't go anywhere near my house. I would have to catch the bus at 7am and walk down a lane with no footpath in the cold and dark just to get to work for 8.30am. I did it last winter, it wasn't much fun.
I think I'd much rather make the journey in my nice warm car, it takes less than 10 minutes.
