Was on the tramlink up to stocky this evening and my partner was forced to stand the whole way from middlewood to the spar.

There was a woman sat there as ignorant as they come, didnt move to let my partner get the pram in, didnt offer up her seat even though the bus was completely stationary and there were over a dozen other seats. She didnt have room to put the brakes on the pram so had the pram hitting her in the shins every time the bus went round a corner or picked up speed and it was obvious the baby was mid feed and looking rather squashed.

She was also ready to burst off the bus at a moments notice so we made her wait till my partner had gotten off the bus, which again she made no effort to get out of the way.

I hope someone rolls over her foot, with a pram or wheelchair. Selfish old troll

I wouldn't mind if the bus had been jam packed full which it did eventually end up full BUT there were several other seats AND i was half way through feeding my five month old daughter!
My knees are bruised to hell now, my partner offered to stand up but he has bad hips and i knew it would hurt him more...

I dont understand why she was completely ignorant to me, she was so focused on her puzzle most of the bus wondered what the hell she was playing at and i couldnt leave my pram as it had all the christmas presents on it.

Not a very nice journey at all

That's why most of my journeys are diesel derived, public transport is useless.

Nothing much seems to have changed then with bus travel. I was pregnant in 1983/84 and remember having to stand all the way from town centre to Deepcar whilst heavily pregnant. The bus was full and no-one gave up their seat for me - and it must have scarred me deeply as I still remember that awful journey. I also remember that there were children sat on seats and their mothers didn't even get them to stand up, even though I did keep scowling at them LOL.

I very rarely use public transport these days - mainly because here on the Island it is far too expensive (yes! much dearer than the Sheffield buses!).

My bold

I think you answered your own question there - she was focused on her puzzle! Some people don't like bus journeys, so they just switch off by listening to music, reading books or doing puzzles.

I used to use a walkman for my commute to and from work - and I was totally oblivious to what was going on around me. Friends getting on the same bus would have to tap me on the shoulder to get my attention.

What I really can't understand is why you didn't just ask her if she could move, so you could sit by the pram and finish feeding your baby.

I had the same experience when I injured my leg badly - Hopped onto the bus, and the driver drove off before I was able to get to the disabled seat (someone was in it, but it was my intention that they wouldn't be for long, as I was going to ask them to move) but never got there - just had to cling to the pole til the next stop... I got my seat then, all I had to do was ask... It was the driver I was angry at, letting someone who couldn't walk properly cling to the sides and not manage to get sat down before they sped off...

She was asked, then went from having her eyes closed as if sleeping, to messing with her puzzles, it was the way she chose to be oblivious to anyone else which i thought a tad rude.

She got a telling off once we got off the bus, but again walked away as if nobody existed....just wanted to vent as it takes alot for me to actually tell someone off in public and she got on my last nerve.

What goes around comes around eh

Yeah i survived but i cant say my little girl was very happy being squeezed into the corner with me resting against her legs while the bus was whizzing round corners...
my brother practically shouted from the back of the bus can you let her sit down cause he couldnt get to the front of the bus at the time and she ignored us, when we first got on there were plenty of other seats she barely moved wen i tried to put my pram in the pram section, even two young lad moved aside to let me wedge her in the corner, i had no where to stand cause the pram wasnt parked properly and she was already pretending to be asleep...

I dont want sympathy im just hoping shes reading this and next time someone gets on the tramlink with a pram she has the decency to move...

In reply to a few questions, i'm very nervous about asking people if i can sit down cause im scared i'll just get looked at like a lazy cow..im the same with phone calls my partner does most of the phone calls cause im scared i'll mess up - thats why i just kept hoping she'd realise there were other seats and move.

Oh and trams were worse when i was heavily pregnant, no one would budge, and i kept getting elbowed in my back and sides...not very nice, dont think its so much public transport, its more towards the people who use it...

Abit like in meadowhall when you lot pushing prams come marching forward without having the manners to move for others.

Maybe the woman could have her own health problems, perhaps she needed to sit. Things are not always as black and white as they seem.
