Modern nutritionists tell us that we need to eat 5 pieces of fruit or vegetables per day in order to have a healthy diet. I am not particularly fond of either but am well aware that wine is made from grapes (usually) which of course is a fruit.
So can somebody please tell me how many bottles of wine I would need to drink per day in order to adhere to what the modern day nutritionists perception of a healthy diet is?

Kill two birds with one stone. Have some chips and wash them down with wine. That's 2 of your 5

The recommendation is 5 different fuits, so that would be red grapes, white grapes

err

rose grapes?

How about, apple cider, pear cider?

Since vege are included too, then that would include malt and hops, two portions in one glass of ale, though that would require two glasses of ale to ensure you get a whole portion of each.

Back home we use Poitín for our 5 a day

A homemade drink made from potatoes, well, mostly potatoes

Some use barley, but what else would you do with the skins of potatoes when you peel them?!

That beastly American drink, no! This is much more refined and has a much better flavour than that hillbilly excuse for water.

I've found this for you:

Though I'm not sure they have the fact of it right, it has been glamourised on this page.

But it has struck up a thirst, the like of which I've not felt in an age.

Nope. It is the nectar of the gods, or the devil's buttermilk, depending on whether it is the night before or the morning after.

Umm, "moonshine" isn't a specific drink, nor is it American. The word originated in Britain, and the product it refers to can be any sort of home-distilled alcohol.

True, but it belittles a heritage by using a generic term for illicit beverages.

There is no comparisson to the rare old mountain dew!

I hadn't spotted that, in fact I hadn't read the page at all, it was the first one I found that had some truth

In defense, it was writen by an englishman (possibly) and the term moonshine is applied to far more than poitín, and I probably haven't convinced you anyway

Ah well, it's akin to calling Jack Daniels a whiskey
