Free Visual Electrical Inspection

Just had a free electrical inspection done from a local sheffield electrician, if anyone has any doutes about there electrics id recommend it!

wow id be interested in seeing a report they do and a property they have done, as how the can carry out on of these for free im unsure.

How are they covering time and running costs is beyond me.

How can anyone do a viual inspection, free or otherwise, and say weather the installation is safe or not

If a visual inspection is all you need then why do we have testers and are required to fill in test sheets.

Maybe sometimes you can walk into a property see an old wooden board and vulcanised rubber cable and know that it requires a rewire.

Just because a board requires replacing it doesnt always mean that the property needs a rewire and in most cases the only way to determine this is to carry out a full inpection and test using the appropriate test instruments.

Did he use a Robin or Fluke tester?

I apologise if I am a bit too subtle, if he does find anything wrong it could be a Fluke or then he could be Robin you? And what's wrong with Metrel? They always seemed popular with sparkys who just wanted a tester that complied.

When I ever I am painting new build properties & the electrician comes to test the installation. I have to unplug my radio

. Does this mean that to test an installation properly all the plugs have to be removed ? I have always wondered why

Yup everything should be unplugged other wise it can give false readings.

Or items can be damaged when carrying out a insulation resistance test. Testing the cables with 500v from the tester to ensure the insulation is all correct at not damaged.

It can be tested at 250v with a tester than can change the setting incase something is still plugged in.

Metrel are one of the best testers on the market. We've got Megger and Robin testers but i still prefer the Metrel.
