yesterday my Granddad had a trip in Netto as there was a loading pallet in the middle of the isle and he caught himself on it and would have gone to ground if I hadn't beeen there for him to grab on to. It made me really angry becuase you never know what damage that could have done to an elderly person, so i logged it in thier accident book, took a picture of the pallet and enquired about claiming with a the national accident company. He is in pain with his hip which we think he has twisted and also has a muscular pain in his thigh.

I don't like reading about people claiming for little things but when it's your family it makes you angry to think he is in pain because of their mistake. Obviously if he is fine in a week then great, no claim and hes feeling fine. But if it niggles him for a while or stops him doing the few activities he is able to do at 86 then he deserves something in return right?

Seems as though he is the one injured, does he want to claim?

Did he not see the pallet? My Mum's always tripping over things but it's because she never looks where she's going!

How is it Netto's fault that your grandfather is incapable of spotting a whacking great big loading pallet without walking into the damn thing?

When i say 'I' i mean on his behalf, yes he has an appointment with his GP. Sorry heading north it appears you are in a cynical and bad mood, anything I can help you with or you want to talk about?

There is nothing cynical about expecting people to take their own responsibility for looking where they're going.

If you're lucky enough to live that long, HN, you will find that your vision changes as you age. Peripheral vision suffers as we age, as does the ability to focus on objects that are close up. Macular degeneration appears in lots of older folks. It could be that he indeed saw that "whacking great big loading pallet" on the floor but because of his aging eye sight he misjudged how close his foot was to it.

The pallet should not have been left in the middle of the aisle.....period.

Like what? Have you lined up treatment for the cash make his hip better?

Thankyou! Thats exactly how i feel, it should not have been their and he's 86 for crying out loud heading north. Tony are you trying to be sarcastic? poor attempt if so, its being compensated for discomfort and the fact he can't fo things.

I walked into a lamp post on the way to work this morning. Nowhere on the lamp post were there any instructions not to walk into it and now I'm suffering from short term memory loss, can't concentrate on anything and and...er....ooh, look at those pretty flowers over there!

If he suffers long term injuries then you may have a case.

Otherwise it appears you are just after some money, and anyone who deals with the case will see it straight away.

Not sure if you read the original post Paul but i stated that if hes fine in a week no problem theres no need to look for compansation. If he isnt though after 3 months then yes I want him compensating. Otherwise it appears Im not just after the money

Did you read the OP's post? She said if there are no lasting problems, no claim. But if it limits his ability to the things he enjoys, there will be a claim. I can't see how that makes her "just after some money" and besides, its not money for her anyway. Its for her Granddad.

My goodness....so many cynical people out there. Most of us can use our noggins and understand when something is right or wrong. In this case, it was wrong for the pallet to be left there and she should have a case if her Granddad suffers because of their negligence.

Compensating for what...not being sarky here....loss of earnings, cost of treatment...what would the compensation be for?

Maybe enough to buy a scooter if his hip bothers him to the point that he can't walk comfortably.
