Since childhood I have had problems with wax build up in the inner ear.

I have gone down the route of using olive oil to soften it, then attending the surgery to have them syringed out.

Unfortunately this never works, I am told that my inner ear is unusually small so even though the syringeing is quite powerful the wax cannot be forced out.

At the moment I have muffled hearing especially first thing in the morning, surely there must be some alternative method of wax removal.

Has anybody had any experience of this.

I use Cerumol, a peanut derived job. I once used Otex but that felt like cement in my ear...terrible!

I also suffer from earwax, and have them syringed every year. Have been also told that my ear canal is narrow, but the syringing is always successful.I do know how you feel though.

Cerumol is over the counter stuff from pharmacies all over. It feels thinner than olive oil and has a pleasant scent to it.

There is a holistic method that uses a candle to draw out excess wax, I was going to use it a few months ago, but meanwhile used olive oil and that seemed to work for me.

It's called a hopi ear candle and can be bought online for a few quid.

I think those ear candles are supposed to be good - but it's best to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing. I also have narrow ear canals - syringing has only ever caused me grief (otitis externa), so i go to ENT and have it removed by suction.
