A while ago there was a bit of a furore about the knocking down of the empty art-deco building on penistone road.

A bit further up the road there is an empty office/workshop complex which is currently being demolished.

I wonder if the demolition company has started knocking down the wrong building

Yes. I thought that as I drove past at the weekend.
The former Presto Tools building or Easterbrook Allcard as it was known when my father worked there some years ago. A fairly boring, non descript building not really worth saving IMO and it will probably be replaced with an equally boring set of warehouses in the future.

I noticed the demolition going on this morning (been going my other route to work for a bit). I have to admit to being quite fond of the building they're knocking down too. And I hadn't realised how massive that site is.
That said, there were some workmen at the art-deco building this morning. Looked like they were drilling holes to start erecting some fencing around it

The old Mushet building is hardly art deco - just a concrete box with a few fancy bits stuck on the front.

This is the last building I thought it would be, such a shame it was a nice building and could have been turned into something useful. I can't wait to see the ten a penny cheap brick, aluminium clad monstrosity that is bound to be built in its place

Hi Owlschick,

No, the building has never been used by Presto Tools which is currently been demolished about half a mile away on the old Penistone Road, in fact this is the building that AndyofBorg speculates is been mistakenly demolished.

Some pictures on this website: Old Presto Tools building.

The old Presto Tools building on what is now classed as Old Penistone Road is rightfully being razed to the ground. It has become an eyesore and a danger and the sooner it is gone, the better.

The correct building is being demolished. My business received a letter confirming that the building was due to be demolished and of course, that is now being proved.

I would love to see a reprieve on the Art Deco building 1/2 mile down the road but I doubt that will happen.

Well wait no longer, the plans are online: Proposed buidings. – scroll down and look at the Block A and Block B elevations, these are the ones that will be visible from Penistone Road.

I fear your dour prediction of the replacement building is correct, as you can see it’s a forgettable red-brown brick with horizontal microrib composite cladding (because aluminium is expensive) and ‘goosewing grey’ roof cladding.

The white concrete slab currently occupying the site certainly looks a lot more distinctive.

It's a nice looking building so such a shame to get rid of it! It could've been converted into apartments or something?

Anyway, looks as though demolition is imminent now that the demolition crew's banner has gone up.

I was wondering - do you think it'll be take down bit by bit or do you think it'll be blown up in an exciting way?!
